My first rebuild

I hope you get it fired up Nick. That's a sick feeling when it won't run after you did so much work to it.
Aaron, I don't think you probably want to mount the antenna horizontally. The way a vertical antenna works is that it more or less radiates the signal perpendicular to the axis of the antenna. If you mount the antenna horizontally, you won't be radiating the signal forward or backward (out the top or bottom) of the antenna. You would be better off going with a shorter antenna and mounting it lower on the truck. A pair of co-phased antennas mounted on the mirrors, for example. Or a smaller mag-mounted antenna on the wiper cowl. I haven't really come up with a mounting scenario that I'm really happy about for my truck for more or less the same reason. I think I'll probably put a set of fiberglass whips on the mirror mounts. I have my 2 meter amateur antenna on the wiper cowl opposite the stock AM/FM antenna.

That's good to know glenn. I'm still gonna pull the lpop just to be sure. The more I think about it the more I hope I didn't lube the lpop. I know it sound brutal but It would give me an answer. But on the other hand I've put assembly grease on every moving part in the motor and just can't see me forgetting about that.

You didn't loose the check valve in the oil cooler when you had it off did you? The truck won't build oil pressure if it is gone. When my son rebuilt the oil cooler on the 96 crew, that valve fell out, and he didn't notice that it had. He said that the truck started and ran for a few seconds then quit, and wouldn't restart without refilling the HPOP. I told him to check the drain pan, and sure enough that valve was there. After reinstalling the valve, the truck runs great.

No, it will run with out that one, (the one you can see by removing the oil filter.) The one I'm talking about is in the Oil filter end, but between the end cap and the block.

I agree with checking that oil pressure regulator between rear housing and block, i had similar symptoms when i did an oil cooler rebuild. it fell out, started first shop fine then died. fought and fought to get it running and did but then my oil pressure was reading very very low. like 25 psi when i was giving it gas.
turns out i put that piece in backwards! popped it off again and flipped it around. and WALA! truck ran good and had good oil pressure.
if you arent right now i would be monitoring the oil pressure so if you do get it going to can tell if its proper PSI
