Dura Spark wiring harness

Prior to my purchase of it, my truck appears to have had a small under the hood fire. The wiring harness between the distributor and the oil pressure/temp sending units at the back of the intake manifold is rather crispy. I'm suprised everything works. This harness ties into the distributor and the Dura Spark box on the fender well. I would like to replace this harness or at least find the factory Ford plugs on each of the ends so I can do it all correctly. I cringe at the thought of having to splice new wires into the harness. Any ideas if I can still buy a harness or where I can find the factory plugs to make up a new one?

On another note, my Dura Spark has the blue grommet where the wiring enters the box, is the preferred box or should I be looking to replace it?

This is all on my 85' F350, 460, MT.

Blue is the preferred module. There is still no one yet that I know of who has stepped up and is reproducing any wiring for these trucks. Here's a catalog that might have some of the connectors. http://www.fordtechservice.dealercon...torcatalog.pdf

But if the wiring is good near the connectors you have, you might indeed have to splice some new wires in place.

If you buy the wire, and go to radio shack or somewhere and get a soldering iron, electronic solder, and some shrink tubing, you might be surprised at how good a job you can do splicing in some new wires. You can slide the shrink wrap onto the wire in short sections, push the strands of each wire together to make a compact connection, solder it, and then slide the shrink wrap onto the soldered area and shrink it.

Thanks for the catalog link. I will see if I can match up any of the connectors on my truck to those in the catalog.

All of the wiring on the manifold, back to the temp and oil pressure sending units is a mess. The connectors appear to be good here so I might be able to splice in new wires. More concerning is one of the plugs near the ignition module, I found at least two wires bare at the back of the plug.

I guess I need to brush up on my soldering skills.

1U2Z-12A199-AA (replaced D6AZ-12A199-A - D8VZ-12A199-A - D9VZ-12A199-A) .. DuraSpark Ignition Module-Blue (Motorcraft DY-893) / Available from Ford.

Myriad 1976/90's FoMoCo vehicles.

Parts catalog pic: 12A199 is the module, 14401 is the dash harness, 14289 is the engine gauge feed harness.

1985 F350 460: There are FOUR possible 14289's, all are obsolete. No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Thanks for the info. Too bad they are NLA. I believe I am after the 14401 harness. Guess I will have to see what I can make.
