This is a powertrain question for Scott Paddy, Alan Costantino, & Greg Gardner:

The 2015 Order Guide for F-450 & F-550 Chassis Cabs indicates the same carryover HP/TQ levels that the previous 2011- 2014 6.7L diesel engine had.

Does this mean that NONE of the 2nd generation improvements announced for the 2015 6.7L diesel in pickups will apply to the Chassis Cabs?

Specifically, does this mean that the 2015 Chassis Cabs will NOT get:

• Best-in-class ratings of 860 lb.-ft. of torque and 440 horsepower
• New, larger turbocharger for greater on-demand performance
• Larger compressor vane for exhaust gases to turn the compressor, permitting lower boost pressure and eliminating the wastegate
• New fuel pump and injectors for more power and reduced emissions
• New temperature control system for enhanced turbo efficiency and performance

Are you still going to build two different types of 6.7L engines in 2015, one for the pickups, and a different one for the Chassis Cabs?

Will the 2015 Chassis Cab diesel engines carryover unchanged from 2014?

Are the alterations made to the 2015 pickup diesel engines planned to be introduced to the Chassis Cab?

Will there be ANY changes to the 2015 chassis cab engine, even if they are not the same changes that have been made to the 2015 pickup engine?

Information Screens

Question for the Dashboard Display Team:

On a 6.2 equipped 2015 Super Duty, on the center gauge panel information display (Type 2 - Lariat trim), the only information provided is transmission temperature on one screen, then a compass display (which is also found over on the 8" touchscreen) and on the third screen nothing.

Has there ever been internal discussions about providing more information on these screens? It seems like it would be relatively simple to pull more relevant information out of the engine computer, there are many variables that could be displayed, and leaving blank screens as it is now conveys an "unfinished" look to a fully loaded Lariat when going through those displays. Is there a secret, or little known combination of buttons I can press (and that steering wheel has plenty of buttons) to get a back-door undocumented screen with more information?

Could a software/firmware update be created to include more information for these screens in the future? Hint: I would be willing to pay for an update that would include more information were it available. The screens could even have an optional "Advanced Mode" similar to the display in my Fusion, so if a customer preferred a blank screen that could be the default.

Thanks,

Joe

Currently waiting on arrival of my 15 super duty and most mfgs of aftermarket seat covers and exhaust don't know what or if any changes have been made. I ordered a 6.2 crew short bed in a f350.

So my questions are

1. Has the seats changed in any way shape or form from the 14's including head rest.

2. Has the exhaust changed in any way, on the 6.2

Thanks in advance.

Here are some chassis, NVH, and vehicle dynamics questions for Mike DeJean, Pete Castelli, Mike Wegienka, and Dave Denmith.

These questions concern the 2015 F-450 pickup frame vibration dampener that in years past was mounted on the driver's side rear hitch side plate (photo below). This part was first introduced in the 2008 F-450 pickup, but was retired in the 2011 F-450 pickup. In late 2013, at the Texas State Fair, the Chief Engineer of the Ford Super Duty announced that this dampener will be restored to the 2015 F450 pickup.

Questions:

1. Is this still true?

2. Is the 2015 dampener the same as was in the 2008-2010?

3. If not, what is different about it?

4. If the F-450 pickup frame is the same as the F-350 pickup frame, why doesn't the F-350 pickup frame also have a dampener? Wouldn't the F-350 benefit just the same?

5. If the higher unsprung weight of the F-450 rear axle (Dana S-110 or S-130) is one of the contributing reason why the F-450 pickup gets the dampener and the F-350 does not, then why doesn't the F-450 chassis cab (with the same heavier axle) get the dampener?

6. Since the F-450 chassis cab has a different (narrow, straight rail, higher section modulus) frame then the pickup, is it the frame itself that makes the dampener unnecessary in the chassis cab, or is the lack of a dampener in the chassis cab driven by cost control, customer expectations, or unknown completed vehicle weight?

7. Would it matter if the dampener were on the curbside instead of the road side?

8. Is the benefit of the dampener on the F-450 pickup most noticed when the pickup is unloaded or not towing?

9. Is there a minimum second unit body weight, or a payload weight, where the benefits of a frame dampener are cancelled / obviated?

Thank you in advance for your time in answering.

Idle

Similar to other question. How does the new diesel engine handle running for and hour or two straight but only driving for maybe half that time and idling the other half?

Here is a vehicle integration question for Nick Terzas and Robbie Calkins:

For the 2015 Super Duty Pickups and Chassis Cabs, are there any functional comfort, control, or convenience features that are available in the pickup, but not available in the chassis cab?

For example, when the 8.3" elevated center screen was first introduced, it was only initially only available in the Platinum trim package. However, the Platinum trim package was not available in the Chassis Cab, which meant that one could not get the 8.3" elevated center screen in the Chassis Cab.

That has been changed since, but my question remains concerning other functional features I may not know of or be able to recount as examples.

Other than decorational items (like paint colors and chrome accents), are there any features that are not available in chassis cab, because the features are only available as part of trim packages that are not available in the chassis cab?

Examples might include, but are not limited to, more sophisticated seat features, like heated/cooled, more "ways" in power adjustments, better stereo or Navigational systems, more insulation, more electronic integration, steering wheel controls, moonroof, etc.

Another way to ask this question might be as such...

If one were to decide between a 2015 F-450 pickup, versus a 2015 F-450 Chassis Cab with their own custom RV hauler bed, would the selection of the Chassis Cab preclude one from obtaining ALL of the comfort & convenience features that are available in the pickup?

Thanks!

The state fair of texas introduction video for the 2015 f450 pickup mentions that the top speed will be increased to the maximum the tires are rated for. Can you tell us what the speed limiter will be set at for the f450 pickups??

To add some comparison data to the question above, the current Continental HSR 225/70R19.5 tires that are original equipment on both Ford and Dodge Chassis Cabs are speed rated to up to 87 MPH.

The previous OEM tires (Continental/General LMT400 series) on Ford Chassis Cabs were speed rated to 81 MPH. I have experienced two catastrophic blow outs on these now discontinued tires... one at 70 mph, and the other at 65 mph.

Note that the current Continental HSR (and companion HDR drive tire) is the ONLY 225/70R19.5 tire on the market that is speed rated to 87 MPH. According to a joint press release from Continental and Ram, that is the key reason that Dodge (Daimler/Sterling/Fiat/Whoever) copied Ford in selecting the same tire. That highest speed rating.

I have compared 27 models of name brand 225/70R19.5 tires, and while there may be tires with better reputations, better traction, better name brand, better compounding, or other subjectively favorable features... none are speed rated at 87 mph. Most are speed rated to 75 MPH, including my favorite Michelins, the XDS2 drive tires.

Even if Ford sets the speed limiter on the F-450 pickup to 87 mph, the first set of replacement tires that deviates from the OEM tire will not likely be rated for that high of speed. Therefore, a corollary question is what is Ford's position on the highly likely probability that the customer installed replacement tires won't be certified for same limit as the one and only tire on the market that is?

Most people opt for cheaper replacement tires, or (mistakenly, imho) believe that factory tires are "junk" simply because they are "factory."

Great question, as that was reported to be one of the reasons why Ford went back to the 17" tires for the 2011 F-450 pickup. Folks at Ford... is that true also?

I hate to be the wet blanket here folks but this is one last friendly reminder that the 2015 Super Duty Team is here to field questions about the 2015 trucks......nothing else. They aren't here to field questions about how to get into a vehicle engineering job, etc.

Please stay on topic and if you have a question pertinent to the 2015 Super Duty, please feel free to post it in this thread.

Above is the post that opened this particular thread and the portion of the text in RED letters were the instructions to everyone posting in here. The problem is that when irrelevant questions are posted, they take away from the thread and make it difficult for the Team to sift through to find actual questions pertaining to their purpose here.

Several posts have already had to be removed from the thread due to being off-topic and we're going to continue to remove off-topic posts in order to keep the discussion on track and on-topic.

Thanks.

Awesome opportunity here. All of my questions have already been asked. Just hoping the team will address these questions with actual technical information. Responses to date were brochure literature that anyone can glean from a standardized Ford press release

I get it that this thread is about touting the new 2015 models. But it's also supposed to let us "get in the weeds" about these trucks

1. Turbo and exhaust brake. ie: does it actually work without breaking?
2. Axle specifics concerning F250 vs F350. ie: are they the same components?
3. Real world MPG numbers
4. Has the "Death Wobble" been addressed?
5. Are the shocks any better?
6. Any consideration for "mixes" of the trim levels? Currently it's setup for "All or Nothing". You either buy a loaded $60k or higher truck... Or you're stuck with a bare bones XL style truck.

SuperDuties don't go through the EPA cycle. Other than "best in class" fuel economy, which was already stated, I don't think we will get a better answer until enough 2015's get into the real world. (or at least until Sgt93/Steve gets his)

I do believe that the engineers managed to eek out a little more MPG as long as your right foot is cooperative in the MPG department.

I though that starting with the 2015 model year trucks under 10,000 GVW had to be tested.....

I'm sure to be able to say "Best in class fuel economy", they obviously know what MPG ratings the trucks are getting, along with the competition.
The question is, will they share those numbers.
