Door Glass

Door Glass
I need a little advice on the best method to install the lift channel and rubber on the door glass for my 1953 F100. I tried soap and water but it was a no go. I have all new parts so there is no slop in the channel. I already replaced one side and it went well but it was all old parts with new glass.
Now on the other side using all new parts the channel will not pound or slide on. I don't want to break the glass pounding on it so any help would be appreciated!! Thanks

The tape being referred to is a butyl rubber made for setting glass into lift channels. I've always known it as butyl tape. Helps hold everything together. If the glass is the correct thickness, it's likely your aftermarket replacement lift channel is too tight. Try spreading it slightly using a piece of masonite or plywood and "install" it like you would the glass to open the channel slightly.

Thanks again for the advice. I'm actually quite savvy with this kind of stuff. Seems like the older I get the more unsure I am of my own abilities!! I spread the channel out just a tad and added a little grease to help it all along. Worked perfect. I was worried that I would either break the glass pounding it into the channel and rubber or opening up the channel too much and not having a tight fit. This is a great forum for help and advice.
