I thought I'd post a few pictures of my son's truck....

We are still working to get it to run smoothly but I have no doubt that we are close.

It's a 1968 F100 with 390. All original. Automatic with power steering and power breaks. It needs a new heater/ac core and some other small fixes but other than that, it's awesome. There is absolutely no rust under the truck body. It's straight and solid. It rides well and doesn't rattle at all. We are pretty excited and ready to play with it. What do you think?

I think it's an awesome find Keith. Right down to the Galaxy/LTD style wheel covers and FACTORY a/c!

That is a nice truck!
When you get ready to do the heater core, you'll have to take the old one in to a radiator shop and have them re-solder the top and bottom tanks onto a new core. The heater core used with factory AC is not the same one as used without AC, and nobody makes new ones for AC equipped trucks.
Just something to keep in mind when you get that far.

Sweet ride! As a safety precaution, too many members here have experience with hood latch malfunctions at highway speeds. Jus Sayin'. If the truck is new to you guys it's an area that should be looked at "just to be sure". Happy tuning!

Nice looking ride welcome to FTE
If the heater has leaked you should check the floor pan under any carpeting for damage. This is a common problem with these old classics.

Thanks Mike.

I've received just a little bit of 'drilling' about the 390 claim but I know it's all in fun.

I'm pretty sure it is a 390. Of course, the air cleaner cover and the badges on the side of the truck say "390" but, of course, that can be faked. The VIN number indicates the 390 too. I'm the 4th owner of the truck and I've spoken to the two of the other three. The original purchaser has passed away but the next owner knew the first. He grew up knowing the original purchaser and seeing the truck most of his life. When the first owner passed away, his estate gave the truck to the second owner. He said that to the best of his knowledge, the motor is original and low miles. Here's the real kicker....

The odometer reads around 24,000 miles. The second owner tells me that he believes that is all that is on the truck. He told me that he always remembered seeing this truck in the first owner's garage and used around the farm here and there. He never remembers it being gone for long periods of time or on long trips. He believes that it spent it's entire life on that ranch in the garage.

Once he received it from the estate, he told me that he didn't think he put 50 miles on it during the 6 - 7 years that he owned it. It has not been registered to drive on a street since 2007. It just might be a very low milage truck.

That's about all I know so I'm going with 390. How's that? Did I pass the test? : )

I also appreciate the advice regarding the heater/AC core and possible rust in the pan. You guys are great.

Keith

If the engine is original, be aware that the heads will (at some point) need to have hardened valves/valve seats installed.

In 1968, they had lead in the gas, but that's gone now. Consider using a lead substitute in your gasoline until you can get the heads upgraded.

One sign that the valve seats are eroding away is low compression and popping back through the carburetor with a loss of power and a feeling with in you that your going to be broke down along the road side as a tow truck races through your mine to get home.. Mostly happens when the truck becomes under heavy load..

Gotta love seeing a original rust free truck. Good story on the past of this truck. Seems fairly untouched after all these years. That Milage is a bonus if it's accurate. For being bought and used on the ranch from when it was new I'm surprised the original owner went all out on the options instead of the plain jane base farm truck.
