How to tell which V6 I have

Hey guys,

Long time no post but have been a heavy user in the past. I have aquired a 73 VW bus (please don't ask why ) with a Ford V6 conversion. I'm fairly certain is a predecessor to the Ranger/BII V6 but not certain. Is there a place on the block that has casting marks to identify which type?

I do have photos that I can post later but wondering if there is an easy way to tell. What I can tell you from memory is that there is a Ford symbol cast into the front cover (or close to there), distributor on top back, exhaust comes out high in the back.

Sorry for the limited info. I did Google for info but couldn't find anything. If it's easiest just to post a pic, let me know.

Update: Here's a pic that will hopefully help.

Thanks!
BB

WAG: An early to mid '70s 2.6 or 2.8 Capri V6, same basic motor as the 2.8 Ranger/BII motor.

Early ones had two of the exhaust ports siamesed on each side iirc.

I spotted some images here--the water pump--that seem to match.

Your're right on the siamesed exhaust ports...if there are only two exhaust ports per side then it's a 2.6. 2.8s had three on each side, on per cylinder. It looks to me like a 2.6 in the photos.

Ahhh...the old Mercury "Crappy". For a German car the interiors sure seemed to self-destruct on those. I just may have to dig up a forum on those.

Hey thanks guys, much appreciated!
