mine was factory option.

Basements all are heated as well.

Only your water line going to the hook up is the issue.

I simply filled the fresh water tank and then we didn't worry about it.

With all the confusion with what you can and cannot do with the shortbed, I figured you guy's were the best source to get answers. We are looking for something not to big, maybe 30' or 32'. We have looked at the Montana's and really like them. My first question is regarding a hitch. What hitch can I use with the shorebed and the prep package? Also, I know there's a lot of variables depending on truck configuration, but what kind of overall 5th wheel weight would put me in the ball park of being within in weight limits? I'm in Cali and I don't want to get pulled over. I'm just looking for a starting point, so I have a little info before I start talking to dealers.
I have a 2015 6.7 F350 King Ranch CC 4x4 SRW SB GVWR 11500, with the fifth wheel prep package and it fits a Reese Elite 18k Slider. Here is one of the suppliers links for you to take a look. Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 18K 5th Wheel Hitch With Slider 30144
I haul a Montana 343RL which is 37' long with fully loaded pin weight of 2350 lbs. The Payload of my 2015 F350CC 4x4 SRW SB can handle up to 3286 lbs. You can find the payload on your truck on the bottom sticker inside your door. Take the pin weight, hitch weight, any cargo in your truck and all passengers and if you are with in the max payload on your sticker, than you are legal and safe to tow that fifth wheel. Good luck choosing your 5th wheel and setup

I think he meant Radiant Technology Insulation, not actually radiant heated floors.

We don't get much snow here, but when we do, it is one of my duallies that I use to get everything done. I just use the 4WD, It's the reason I bought it. I hear people say that a dually gets worse rear traction in the snow...well duh, you have 4 wheels on place of 2 and less weight for each. Same for grassy and sandy areas. I understand why people don't like leaving them in 4WD all of the time, but that's why we have auto locking hubs. Use it when you need it. When it snows here, we have lots of ice, so that's why I use 4hi most of the time.

Mine didn't do too bad last winter.

We have maybe 6-8" at any one time.

Just realize you will need to kick in the fronts sooner than you would with a srw.

I have the newer BFG's on this one (came with the truck) and they are much improved over the previous design. They did pretty good.

I wondered what you were doing.

Congrats Roy. My F350 was my first ordered vehicle. No regrets so far. I thought about a dually but with all the snow we get decided against it. So far I haven't regretted my decision but I can't go any heavier with my RV choices. Probably not a bad thing - I sometimes lust after the newer big ones but I can't really afford one and don't really want to go any bigger anyway. I do love the ruby red though. We'll have to meet up some time - red and green Christmas colors. :-)

Mileage in the winter is going to suck anyways. I plan on just leaving the front hubs locked for the most part and then shift on the fly to 4WD when needed.
Although that said - this truck is not my DD so it will probably see less than 500 miles all winter.. I have a Jeep Wrangler with a plow on it and just drive that when I need to get somewhere..

Thank You for the feedback folks.........

Monty.....forgot, you are not in the winter wonderland region....

Scott.....Up until I went over the scales with my truck and 5th wheel, no intention of changing trucks. I am concerned about the chance of accident, injury or breakdown due to be over limits in a few areas with my current truck. Long trip to Alaska summer 2015.

Shawn.....We do need to meet up. Fall 2016; tentative plans to head for New England ??

Randy.....I don't head to work everyday...I do take my adopted granddaughter to and from school everyday, but I tend to use the wifey's Nissan Altima due to money conservation.......In the really bad weather, the 4x4 truck will be the taxi.

Kerry.....The Jolly Green Giant I had the hardest of time with: Blue Jeans, Ruby Red, White Platinum and Green Gem
