Question for the trans experts over this way.
I got a E4OD from behind a '97 PSD. Looking at a '94 rv (van chassis) with a 460 and bad trans(E4OD as well I think). What's needed to, if possible, to put the diesel trans behind the 460?
They share the same bellhousing from what I've read here, but the trans is different internally, being set for a diesel, and won't work well with the 460. This is all from what I've read in the forum, so no first hand experience on this.
I believe that the torque converters also have a different number of bolts (and the internals of the T/Cs are different as well). I could be wrong, though.
The lower 4 bell housing bolts will line up, the top 2 won't, the 7.3 bell housing is taller. The converter on the 7.3 uses 6 bolts and will not work on a gasser. The internals I thought were the same.
Better sell the diesel trans and find a 460 trans.
Thanks for all the input guys! The rv is for sale, just hoping I could fix it with what I got laying around for a cheap camper I don't have to care about for friends/family to use. I'll probably just pass. Thanks again guys!
