Im getting an occasional wiff of 90 wt inside the cab. Usually when stopping. I dont see any leaks on the diffs and ghe rims are oil free.

Any ideas?

Yes gear oil. I don't know what it could be.

 

Could be burning brakes, it's an acrid smell that isn't that dissimilar from gear oil. Have you checked for a sticking caliper?

 

I just rotated the tires and checked the brakes. Pads and rotors look good. If it was sticking shouldn't I see some chattering othe rotor?

 

I've had a similar issue with my 06. It was the rear axles seals leaking. They leak ever so slightly and it seeps into the park brake assembly on the inside of the rear rotors. The heavier load you pull, the stronger the smell. There were no drops onto the ground, just a very small streak on the rear hub.

 

Ill have to pull the rotors and check that out. I only get this smell once in a while then only for a few seconds.

I have been running in 4 hi in the rain since my "limited slip" sucks ***. I dont go over 65 in 4wd. I hope that hasnt caused a leak.

Im also runni g an h and s tuner. Ive only made 3 passes in the truck so i wouldnt think the pinoon seals would be slowly leaking. That and i dont see any fliid.

This started about 1k miles ago after my last oil change and rotate.

 

That would not cause a leak. Some folks up north spend half the year in 4WD and they don't leak. Not sure why you'd need 4WD in the rain though.

 

One bald tire spins if i just tap the gas. I go no where. Bigger meats coming soon

Yes i do. Its def a gear oil smell though.

Ok well thats a relief. I guess ill need to route it further out or add some sort of filter.

 

Check the left frame rail roughly under the driver's seat, the front axle breather is located up there (follow the hose to the diff), and if you've been running in 4WD on moderate traction roads you may well have overheated the front diff and caused some oil to puke out of the breather.

These trucks are 4WD, not AWD and do not have a center differential so unless the road is *really* slippery things will bind up and overheat. I cooked my front diff driving an extended distance in 4HI in *6" of slush* on the highway, and slush is far lower traction than rain.

 

It is not a leak, it is overheating the front axle which cause some of the gear lube to puke out of the axle vent tube which is routed up into the left frame rail as I noted. I'd put 95% odds that this is what is happening to the OP, and it will ultimately result in a rebuild of the front axle if he continues using 4WD on high traction surfaces at speed.
