Ramshorns or Headers???
Ok fellas, I need some advice as to which way to go with the exhaust on my F100 4x4 with a 292. The best deal I've found so far are these headers:
1953-1964 F100 Ford 272-312 Y-Block Chassis Headers, AHC Coated - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop
The other choice unless you guys can suggest something better are these:
Tru-Ram Ford Y Block Exhaust Manifolds - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop
I saw a nice set of early thunderbird header on Mummerts site but not sure of it will fit, and it has a bracket welded on for the clutch pivot:
Y
At the moment I'm sporting rotted out redneck dual exhaust with factory manifolds. Stock everything else and manual steering.

Just noticed these Ram horns from John are a better deal than Speedway:

I placed my order today, can't wait to see them. How did you handle the oil dip stick tube? John is out of stock on the bent ones. I hope I can just put the whomp on mine and bend it forward as needed in place.

Yes headers can be cheaper, but at what cost? I've never had a set of headers on a daily driver that had the bolts stay torqued. And I've even seen them rot out in short order. For me, the ram horns was the only option

I got mine to work with a bit of gentle massaging. Doesn't take much. I have the Speedway version of the rams because John wasn't able to get them at the time.

I'm bringing up an old thread here hoping to get a little more info. I want to go the rams horn route for dual exhaust on my '58 but of course they are next to impossible to find. I'm about ready to bite the bullet on John Mummert's repros, but wanted a few more reviews. Can any of you who have used them tell me what you think? Thanks.

It's worth it, Y blocks are some of the best sounding V8s ever made. I could have done the installation but looking over the final layout, and being able to do chin-ups on the pipes I think it was overall a good decision.
Keep in mind too whether Mummert manifolds include the flanges, and gaskets, (if used, some people don't) and hardware. Have a plan for stuff like that because nobody will have 2" flanges? Always a learning curve when it comes to this stuff.
