Suggestions for Gauges?

I scored a Banks triple gauge pillar at the JY today. Any suggestions on which gauges are most important? I was think tranny temp, fuel pressure, and water temp (ordered a water neck with bung for temp sender but comes with plug to seal if not needed).

Oil pressure and water temp at the least. Might also depend on what type of motor this is going in to. If it's a performance motor then I'd also suggest fuel pressure or AFR (wideband). If you are running any boost then leave out the fuel/AFR and add a boost gauge.

It's a 460. I thought a transmission temp gauge would be a good idea since I'll be doing a good amount of towing this summer.

I would agree with that, especially if you don't have any extra trans coolers than what comes stock. If you have one (after market) that you think is plenty sufficient, you might be able to get away without the trans temp because you can be confident you are getting plenty of cooling. I suggest this because I've been there, done that. I had a trans temp gauge but don't any longer, wanted the real estate for something else.

BTW - what size are the gauge pods? Do you know what brand you'll get?

I have the super cooling package. Do a line going into the radiator, and an external cooler mounted to the core support. Its a Banks pillar, so I believe its a 2 1/16" gauge that it needs. No idea what brand is best performance/price-wise.

I found these work well for the price - Prosport Gauges Evo series gauges, EVO Red and Blue digital gauges

I have 3 of those gauges and am happy with them. If you look around on that site you can also find the same gauges with more features that are more expensive.

Those look sweet! Is a 1/8" sender a standard size? Not sure what size the sender tap is on the Four Seasons water neck I ordered.

Yeah, 1/8" is the standard size for the gauge sending units I have - Prosport Gauges electric senders

I had trouble mounting the oil temp sender on my 351W. I found using brass tubing to extend from the stock oil port was a little too cumbersome for me. I then got one of these - Oil filter adaptor plate-Sandwich adaptor Plate -Prosport Gauges

The problem I had with that was the sending unit was touching the back of the PS pump and eventually went bad. So I replaced that and ended up having a hose made to attach to the oil spacer and then mount the sending unit a few inches away. I did all this because I wanted to leave clearance in there for when I have to work on the PS pump and when I need to change the oil filter

Remember, the temp in the water neck is only correct AFTER the thermostat has opened. If the thermostat malfunctions, your engine could overheat and you wouldn't know it because the thermostat didn't open allowing the hot coolant to get to the sender.

Good thing that the water neck has plugs. Although mine's rusted so I needed a new one anyways. Guess I'll be doing a T at the temperature sending unit. Speaking of, where is it on a 460? I see what looks like 3 possibilities.

Temp sender is the one closest to the water neck.

Autometer gauges are nice and of good quality. I'm going to install a trans temp gauge, as I too, will be towing.

Where will you be installing the trans temp sender?

There is a 1/8" NPT thread on the driver's side of the transmission just in front of the gear selector linkage. I'll post a picture.

Is that the test port? Ford250HDXLT posted a pic of the test port in my trans gasket thread.
