I agree with everyone else on keeping the Merc frame and body, but that Cummins with trans is very heavy (+1000#). The frame will have to be reinforced considerably. It will be a real stump puller but it will have lots of handling issues. AX won't have to worry about any autocross competition.

Congrats, It will be very nice to have all that elbow room.

Hey Probe,
Congratulations on your new place!! Did it come with a house for your wife - they get kind of cranky if all they get is a nice garage - just saying.
Post some pics of your new garage - I'm jealous!!

A person would have to check into this but a mechanic/Cummins fanatic friend of mine says the early Cummins ways far less (150 lbs more than a 440) than a late one and if a auto is used (727 with an od) shouldn't be that heavy. The cast iron 5sp is heavy. The newer style is a couple hundred heavier than the gen one Cummins.

440 weighs 670 lb and Cummins 6BT is 1100 lb dry weight

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cummins_B_Series_engine
engine weight difference - 440 and Hemi

And here are some of the year to year differences:

I was sure that was correct as I was in Jeep and Truck Engineering (JTE) at that time and we couldn't put the engine in late 1980 4WD trucks due to the weight on the front axle.

I think a turbo would be "standard accessory" in 1994, but anything is possible.
