The npi 5.4 was around for about 4 years. The pi 5.4 was around about 4 years. The 3v was out about 6 years, so by that math and the 6.2 being out now 5 years you would think changes are coming. From what I have read, not having driven one yet, I don't think there necessarily needs to be an upgrade but was just curious

 

Most likely this motor will be phased out before it is upgraded, but only Ford knows. The motor itself is pretty powerful, but you can upgrade headers / exhaust, supercharger, lots of tunes, etc. Just depends on what you are looking to do. Also Livernois makes a 6.6 liter stroker kit, and there are aftermarket pistons, valves and other goodies available. Ford Motorsport also made some cams but those are out of production, but still out there.

 

I don't see a lot of modification coming, it was built to be Fords fleet bependable workhorse. I forsee it lasting in its current form until it can't make goverment pollution or fuel standards. It's already is a free flowing motor so I don't think there's a lot to be gained from intakes or exhaust modification but I understand that the aftermarket tuners can make a big difference. The motor transmission combination really adjusts to the load and the fuel that's being used, if you drive it around empty trying to get good mileage it will tend to be a little doggy dut it you work it hard like I do it's a different story.
