Fuel tank size ?

Hey guys, what was the largest single fuel tank you could get from the factory in 2004? I had thought they were either 29 or 35 gallons. But I had more than a quarter tank last night and then put almost 29 gallons in, which makes me think I've got a bigger tank than that.

Here's a spec sheet for 2004:
2004 FORD SUPER DUTY SPECIFICATIONS | Ford Trucks

Looks like there were several available sizes above F-350. Chart shows 40gal with an optional 19 gallon aux tank. Is it the truck in your sig/pic? I noticed the fuel filler is behind the rear wheel, the cab/chassis trucks may be different form a standard pick up. Fuel gauge could be off also. Is it a metal tank or poly (plastic).

Thanks for the info. Yep, it's my .signature truck.

Hum... 40 gallons would make the math about right, assuming my fuel gauge is working right. Who knows.

I'll have to get under there and look whether it's metal or plastic. I hope plastic because sooner or later I'm getting back into alternative fuels.

Yup, plastic is better. There have been problems with the linings shedding on the metal tanks. Alternate fuels are interesting but as fussy as the 6.0 is a different vehicle may be a better choice. A couple weeks ago, I watched some guys on TV make fuel out of some rendered hog fat (one of their freezers had went bad). It would have to be a serious emergency for me to put something like that in my tank.

We do have a forum here on the subject.
