'81 L800 dumptruck - engine governor module

Taking a load of trash to the dump and suddenly the engine governor module, D9TE-12A458 started smoking and the truck went dead. No power to anything, not even the fuse box. Took the module apart and some of the circuit board is fried. This module is located in the cab, on the fire wall. I've checked with all the truck and junkyards in my area and can't seem to located a replacement. Any suggestions?

Also, I checked all the other wiring and nothing seems wrong. All fuses good. Battery full charge, power to the starter solenoid. It's obvious this part is toast, but could there be another part which caused the EGmodule to go bad? I'm pretty sure this is the original module. I just dont want to put a replacement (if I can find one) in, and then it fries due to another problem.

Thanks for your comments. Great site.

I've been doing some reading about this Electronic Governor Module (EGM). It controls a solenoid on the carb. I tested the connection plug to the EGM and there is no power. No power to ignition switch or fuse panel. Battery good and power at the starter solenoid. I did locate a replacement EGM and it will arrive in a few days, but without power....What else should I check? All ideas appreciated!

You omitted the suffix from this ID number, there are two possibilities.

It's either D9TE-12A458-AA which crosses to part number: D9TZ-12A458-A (Motorcraft DX-45)
.
D9TE-12A648-BA which crosses to part number D9HZ-12A458-C (Motorcraft DX-46).

But, BOTH these part numbers were replaced by E1PZ-12A458-D .. Engine Governor Control Assy (Motorcraft DX-50) / Obsolete ~ Last MSRP: $234.47 / Dealer net cost: $110.20.

COUNTRY FORD TRUCKS in Ceres CA has 1 = 209-593-7370 / No other Ford dealer, no obsolete parts vendor has any.

Check with NAPA or an indie parts store to see if one or more of these Motorcraft part numbers can be crossed over to another brand.

Thanks. Suffix is-AA. Can the truck start or run without one, even temporarily to get it to a shop?
