4in or 6in lift with the TTB

Hi, all. I've been scouring the forums lately reading up on lifting info. Well, I've got a 1997 F250HD with the TTB. It seems everyone hates this axle, and suggests replacing it with the D60, if you're looking at doing a lift.

My question is how bad is it to use the TTB? I wouldn't be going off-road and beating the hell out of my truck. I just feel like lifting it, for my own enjoyment. I like the looks of a lifted truck compared to stock height.

If that's not really a good option how hard is it to do a swap? If I were to get a full axle with everything on it would it be as simple ad cleaning it up replacing worn parts and slapping it on?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I still have my TTB, under a PSD F250. I've replaced all of the rubber components with poly bushings and have an add-a-leaf and airbags for use with my plow. The only problems I've had with it are pivot bushings causing alignment issues (cured with poly bushings), auto hubs (replaced with MM stainless manual hubs) and adjustable caster/camber sleeves. Other than that, it works well.

Honestly, in my experience, it's not cost effective to do the swap unless you can get the axle for real cheap. You also need several other components and you must move the spring perches on the axle also. My bushing kit cost $50 and took about 6 hours of my time to install (I installed the add-a-leaf and airbag setup at the same time).

If you're doing it for your own enjoyment which is perfectly fine then I wouldn't even bother doing the swap and going through the trouble. I would go 6" lift on 35s with a TTB, and that'll be equivalent to about a 4" lift on 35s with a D60 since they sit up higher.

Nope! A D60 an F350 of the same generation will bolt right up to an F250, you do not have to move the spring pearches. But I agree, for a pavement princess, don't bother with a D60. It might take a little work to get the alignment correct so the tires will wear evenly, but it will still be cheaper than a D60.

Any chance you're locoated somewhere in the NW? I will likely be pulling my lift this summer for an RSK and Superduty springs.

Yeah, shes my little pavement princess. Maybe later on it life ill beat her up a bit, but for now shes rust free, and low miled can't justify doing that now.

I cant complain about the TTB. I've hit some major pot holes this year (one even blowing out my brake line) and I can still take my hands off the wheel and it will drive straight. Tires don't even seem to wear uneven from the backs. Hopefully after the lift and 35s it'll be the same.

Would this be a decent lift-

It seems like it has all the components needed for the lift, and would fit my need.

I'm not a big TTB fan, but I have put a total of 230K miles on them in three different trucks, and I haven't replaced one (yet). So I'm also not one to tell you that you need to junk it.

I haven't lifted either of my F-250s, but I did put about a 2 1/2" lift on my F-150. The only alignment problem I had was that the toe-in and steering wheel alignment kept changing as the new springs settled. I finally put a drop pitman arm on it to bring the tie rods more parallel with the axle beams and that took care of it. I had been told that with that small of a lift the pitman arm didn't need to be changed. It did.

A full leaf spring lift would be better but for that price for a 6" lift on a 3/4 ton model ...aint bad at all.

I thought they were, but i went on to Tuff Country website and look up Tuff Country 26820. It came up with the kit but a kit without shocks the Tuff Country 26820K included the shocks. Unless im wrong, but that pic may be missleading
