Have you disassembled the hub and mount to see if anything is outright missing?

It appears that part 8603, the pulley, just slides back and forth and wobbles around on the shaft.

If it slides back and forth, either the hub assembly is not bolted together properly or the spindle bearing is bad.
As you can see in this illustration, the fan bolt goes through the blade, the hub cover, the spindle bearing and the hub. The bolts are secured by the 4 fan bolt retainers.

If it is bolted together properly and it still wobbles, the spindle bearing (#21A-8626) is bad. I went through this recently and found that there are zero spindle bearings available anywhere. I located a used fan assembly from a local guy, it was the last one he had. About that time I saw a couple of used fan assemblies sold on ebay, with the shipping they were close to $100.00

Great schematic, I tried to crank it up last night but it made a clanging sound and stopped. I do need to find a complete assembly, but until then I will have to go with electric fan again.

Harleymsn, you are so right! I did not have the retaining backing plates! You would not believe how many answers I got from so many supplier experts! I cranked, I bent the pulley so I need to find a complete minus fan. If you find one, please send link to it.

I found one on EBay for $60, but now having trouble starting her up. Acts like it's going to fire but dies then floods. I drain bowl start again and does the same thing. Any suggestions think my points are bad. It just started up a few days ago in 10 degree weather.

It sounds like the float is sticking open. Try rapping on the side of the bowl.
