"Kazoo" Sound 2011 F-350
Folks,
Has anyone else experienced this "kazoo" sound emanating from behind the "ohh crap" handles on either side of the front windshield? It only happens at highway speeds while there is a crosswind pushing across the vehicle. If I grab the handles and try pulling on them, it will change the sound but it requires constant pressure to reduce it. It goes on and on for hours! Any help would be awesome!

Had the exact same thing happen on my 2012 for the first time last week. First 2 times it happened, it scared the crap out of me. It is not constant but happened 10-12 times in about a 200 mile stretch. I was headed straight into 50 MPH wind going about 78. Would be interested to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Could also be we're the mirrors mount....as Senix said a bit of masking tape around the windshield to body and see if that helps, if not, move to the mirror bases, then the cowl rubber seal etc....
If the noise reduces you know your in the right area...if it's gets worse you have added to much tape...if the noise is gone you found the problem.

If the DIY approach doesn't work out, you can always bring this to the attention of your dealer. PM me your information if you need my assistance following your appointment; to check out ways to help, I'll need your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and preferred servicing dealer.

I'm dealing with that right now on my '11 xl while on a trip. I taped the windshield with painters tape (better in my eyes because of the poor adhesive) and stopped the noise and my going mad. I've since removed the tape but am in a location where I seldom get to exceed 45 MPH so I haven't reproduced it yet. I expect to have to go to a dealer to have the windshield resealed. Under warranty I hope.
If you look at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ind-noise.html you'll see some other possibilities that may be causing your problem.

Update 4/15/2014
I took my 2011 F350 in today. The gal told me it was the seal around the windshield and that it was not covered under warranty. It would cost me $550 dollars to replace. I was dumbfounded! I have the extended warranty but the seal around the window is not covered??? I believe it is something else. I can feel it thru the "oh crap" handles. As if the issue were just behind them. Gonna call Safe-Lite and see what my options are.

Have you been able to resolve this issue? I have the same thing happening. I did some testing on Sunday and taping around the top and side seal of the windshield seems to have eliminated the noise. I also have a friend with a 2013 that does the same thing. It seems to only happen on mine on windy days. I know that sounds weird, but windy days are the only days I have noticed it.

Kazoo-ectomy!!
My kazoo started singing 2 days before leaving on a trip. Painters tape kept us from going mad. The trip was to the FL Keys where the highest speed limit is 55 MPH and not much of that so the symptoms almost went away. I was getting up-tight as the F-250 will soon go off warranty. Fortunately the symptoms suddenly became so bad that the kazoo started it's overture at 40 MPH the day before I brought it to the dealer. They heard it without question and ordered a new windshield molding. The next week they removed and re-installed the windshield and used the new molding all under warranty. I haven't had a chance yet to hit 75 with a headwind but I do believe the problem is solved.
FTE made coping with this problem easy. Thanks to all.
