truck won't shift!

Hey guys, we recently swapped a 94 351w into a 1990 F250 e4od.
Right now the spedo isn't working, and we have a shift problem. When you shift into drive it seems as if it may be in second and it will not shift. You can manually shift from first to second, but then once you shift it up to drive, it stays in second!!!!?? Any ideas?? Is the spedo not working and the trans problem related? Thanks,
Ryan

Does the whole vss sensor just "pop" out of the transmission after removing that bolt? I found we crushed and bent the sensor when dropping the new motor in, but when I tried to pull it out only the top part of the sensor came off?? Am I safe to grab the rest with needle nose to pull it out?

Ok, one last question, is the gear supposed to come out with the sensor or will it stay in there? thanks for all your help.

is the sensor supposed to be slightly difficult to get out? i tried pulling it out with my fingers, but dont really want to put a bunch of pressure on it.

Swapping motors should have no effect on the transmission or speedo, did you also change the transmission or was the speedo not working before the engine swap?

we jacked the tranny up to mate with the motor easier, and we crushed the sensor, when i tried to pull it out only the top half came out i noticed the metal rod that goes into the sensor was bent.

There should be a gear attached to the end of the speedo cable where it goes into the trans.

I had the cable all the way out because the top part of the sensor came off, so i had a cable with half of a vss sensor, and no gear so when i pull the bottom part of the sensor out the gear SHOULD come out with it right?
