New member seeking advice for 92 f-superduty
I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this thread, I couldn't find anywhere else in the forums to post about an older f-450. I have the 460 (7.5l) f450 and soon will be doing a head swap. One of 2 questions. I found a set of D3VE heads, can these be directly bolted to the 92 efi 460 and still keep all the same components such as the rockers and intake? Also I'm looking for a place to get reasonably priced head and exhaust studs for when I do the swap. All of the local part stores have no hardware for head replacements of a 460, and so far the only fastener kits I can find for the head studs are $250 and the exhaust studs $100. I know there has to be a cheaper option out there. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to FTE.
Forget the D3 heads if you are keeping EFI. They ports are different, and I'm not sure anything will even bolt up. Also, I think those are the worst heads for a 460.
Other than parts store replacements, no suggestion on studs or bolts. You get what you pay for if you buy cheap on items like that.

What heads should I use then?
My heads are pretty corroded and I cant seem to find the casting code. Tried to read the casting code on the block but had the same issue. A couple of the letters are hard to recognize. So since it's a 92 what heads should I be looking for? I have a burnt exhaust valve on the passenger side head which is why I'm replacing. Normally I would just re seat the valves and replace the ones that need replacing but unfortunately the head also has 4 broken off exhaust bolts. Looks like one was attempted to be drilled out and re tapped but part of the ear broke off. And on another one it looks like a tap was broken off inside the hole. Someone didn't know what they were doing. I really don't want to spend 400 a peice for heads from a parts store when they will probably be unreliable anyway so I've been searching craigslist for used heads in good condition. But I have no idea what casting numbers to look for that will work for efi. Thanks again

You would be looking for casting numbers starting with an "E" or an"F", like "F3TE" for a 1993 engineered part or "E7TE" for one from 1987. I would guess you had E7s on your motor. You need EFI specific heads. Some head discussion here:

Rebuilt heads or even having heads redone is expensive. But you have little choice if you want to restore your engine to OEM condition and performance.
