Typically, the 300 uses outlets on the opposite side as V8's, so I doubt it would be a simple install.

If you have an auto trans, the cooler is also on the other side.
Running an upper hose isn't a big deal. It's the lower hose having to cross between the rad and crank pulley that can be problematic.....

I thought the 300 had a narrower opening in the radiator support?

Non-A/C does, most of the time. A/C trucks *generally* have the same width radiator as the 302/351.
However, it is possible that a 460 truck has an even wider radiator......

85+ the 460 radiator uses the same CORE as the two row 300-6 radiator. No need to go screwing around with hoses, just buy the right radiator.

Last year for the 460 V8 was 1978. The first year for the 460 V8 was 1973.

The 460 radiator measured 24.25" height X 26.25" width.
It was a copper downflow radiator with 2" outlet on left side and 1.75 inlet on right side. The radiator is supported by two steel channels that attach to the sheet metal frame with four speed screw & spring clip nuts.

The 1985 300 6 radiator, width = 27.5 " X 18.1" height
It was an aluminum crossflow radiator with 1-3/4"" outlet on right side and 1-3/4" inlet on the left side.

The lower supports are two sets of side wings that straddle the frame that offer support for & aft, only. The weight of the radiator is support from the bottom directly on the frame with a rubber isolator.
Two plastic tabs at the top fasten to the frame with two screws.

Fitting the stock 460 copper radiator would be a real pain.
However, it is quite easy to modify a copper core /brass tnak radiator.
Would change the outlet connection to the left side and inlet connection to center or right side.
Modify or replace the side steel supports to fit the 1985 frame.

The 460 copper radiator only has 15% more fin area than the aluminum core stock 1985 300 6.
However, the cross flow aluminum radiator is more efficient than the copper down flow radiator. Therefore the aluminum radiator has more cooling capacity than the stock 460.

Only advange of copper/brass over aluminum/plastic is the copper is rebuildable and repairable.

Best fitting rubber hose from the 2" pump inlet on the right side with U shaped bend for 300 6 that I have been able to find to connect the conventional Ford outlet on the left lower side to make a cross over is DAYTON PN 71732.

Yes , first build year for z 460 V8 in Ford truck was late 1973, but the the first available for sale year was 1974.

First year for 460 V8 was 1968 that was planted in the Lincoln automobile.

This is a confusing statement...to say the least.

1978: Last year 460's available in Passenger Cars / 1973: First year 460's available in F100/350's / 1975: First year 460's available in E250/350's..

460: 1968/78 Lincoln/Continental Marks / 1972 Thunderbird / Misc 1973/78 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars / 1973/76 F100 / 1973/79 F250/350 / 1975/79 F150 / 1975/97 E250/350 / 1983/97 F250/350.
