antique licence plates

Hey all, any one running "antique plates on their dents? The rules for Alberta are, "only driven for parades, shows, or repairs not to be used for general transportation" Just wondering if any one has had any problems with the law on this one.

Sure sounds like they could, sure. Always carry a new spark plug and a jug of coolant with ya. Seriously though, it's a judgment call.

Area laws differ . I would talk to your local official . I run antique tags on my 53 . I could get them for my 78 , but , I use it as a daily driver . Insurance also comes in to play . Many factors to consider . Best of luck !

I haven't had any issues with mine here in MN. It is a judgement call and by the textbook, they could stop you, but if you are not doing anything wrong, who's to say you weren't coming from a show or parade and just happens to stop at Walmart or anywhere else. Also, if the vehicle looks to be a show type vehicle than cops here leave you alone. If you had the plates on a truck that looks like a farm truck than I could see it being an issue.

If you drive your truck in the described matter that the law calls for then go for it.
Here in Washington you are not allowed tho carry a load at all in your truck with those plates.

Yeah, I didn't even think about that when I had them on my old 78... It definitely looked like a farm truck. No tickets luckily!

ya I guess the difference is $85.00 a year for regular plates compared to $40.00 lifetime just seems like a waste when I only drive them 5 or 6 times a year and a few 1000 kms. But mabe its just the cost of owning a classic.

I get that I only drive mine a handful each year but when I do I'm going to the dump or have a boat or my camper on it.

In Mississippi nobody really cares what you do with a truck with antique plates. My dad has used his dents for all sorts of things over the years with antique plates on it.
