Charlie, Very nice trailer build. I had a friend that built one from a kit and that was not trivial. An aluminum trailer is nice but not as necessary for where you live as it is for me. I have had my aluminum trailer for almost 25 years.
Enjoy your new trailer. The gloss black with the aluminum deck and box is very sharp!

Very nice. I think the double support beams would just offer much more peace of mind when hauling all the old iron you are going to start bring home. Great work!

Hey Donald...I was just thinking about you. Last weekend I made a trip to the Long Beach swap meet and I found/bought a pair of 56 doors! I haven't taken the time to look them over real closely yet but they seem to be pretty solid...no filler and only a few rust-through spots on the lower edges under where the weather stripping goes on.
We'll be in Lebanon for the week of Mother's Day but the only driving to be done is from the rental car lot at the airport out to the 109!

I know how we all are about pictures, and I should know better than to use words when a picture is needed, so here are a couple of shots of the aluminum deck clips and the ramp(s). I haven't decided on how I am going to attach the ramps so that work has yet to be done. These ramps will hold 4000 LBS, weigh only 23 LBS each, and are all aluminum...best $350 I have spent so far on this project.

You know what happens the Thursday after Mothers Day about 170 east of Lebanon dont you? Planning to go up Friday and check out Bigwin56 and others in the swap meet area. Go ahead and package them doors up and put them on the greyhound bus ahead of your trip. I am going to email you my cell number. Maybe I can come out and see you while you are in the area.

That trailer looks way better then what's on the market now for half steel half aluminum trailers. Nice job.

Funny you should ask...I went directly to Dexter and got a quote that was twice what I ultimately paid with a local vendor. All Dexter axles are ordered/built to spec so I went on the various websites and found all the info I needed and the local vendor wrote it up. I got the axles in about 10 days.

So I have been looking at some of the high-end trailers and one option they all seem to have is deck lighting. Most have round lights mounted in the bed that shine upward...nice if you have a truck on the trailer but not so helpful otherwise. I found these LED light strips online and thought that they may work on my trailer...

I would never in a million years have ever guessed that trailer was home made. It looks like a top of the line deluxe trailer to me. You are a true craftsman Charlie, and should be very proud of your accomplishment. Congratulations.

Those work great. Could you but one in the back between the ramps? I put big reverse light on all my trailers . It helps a lot backing in at night.

I have four on the back of my big gooseneck and four on my 28' in closed trailer

This is a cool light. I m going to put this on my 56 flat bed
