Please help. 1974 ford Econoline200

Hey guys I'm new to the site. And am looking for some information I have inherited a 1974 ford E200 with a 302v8 it's a one owner van and only has 38,000 miles on it but has been outside its whole life. It does run and drive I'm looking to sell it and have no clue where to start as far as the price. Any ideas

It's worth what someone will give you for it. Show us some photos of what you have. Is there rust coming through the body? Have you replaced all the rubber parts and fluids? Does it use any oil? Are the kingpins in the I-beams rusted tight? How about some photos? Sitting outside its whole life generally means the paint is oxidized or flaked off. What condition is the interior in? Is it a window or cargo van? Need tires? Brakes? Is the mileage documented or has the odo flipped over once or twice? Show us some photos...

If you have no clue what it's worth and have the van in your possession, how much info have you provided us with? Read your post again. I'd say $200-1000 depending on how badly someone wants it and what it really is. I had a '73 E200 with a 302 and automatic and sold it for $500 in 1987 I think.

Yanno everytime some new guy stumbles into these forums, asks a question like this yet provides nearly no real info helpful in even making a WAG I wonder why should I or anyone else spend time trying to help? When such a question is quickly followed by a snarky sounding self-reply honestly any desire I might have had to help quickly disappears.

The one true and consistent answer to this question is "its worth what you can sell it for". Simple, elegant answer that's as helpful as was the input accompanying the question.

I'll add most vehicles are sold relatively close to their current location so posting on a national forum that also includes several other countries might not reveal anything useful to a seller's local market.

Does any of that help?

We are Ford enthusiasts, not auto appraisers, if your sole purpose is to sell it, list it somewhere for what you think it's worth. I'm no fan of people who register to a site, ask whats my vehicle worth, with the sole purpose of selling it and never returning.

Well a 74 Econoline ain't exactly a collectors item. I'd say it was worth at least $500 sight unseen.

Scrap prices are way down, last I got was $168/ton, so this van is maybe worth $325 at the scales, minus the $2 per tire EPA charge..........

Wish I'd seen this at first post............JWA, Great response

Thank ya Sir----glad we're on that same page!

Seems we go through a spell where newbies pop in, post once or twice then disappear. Not sure how quickly they expect an answer but if its not immediate interest is lost---so it seems anyway.

Apart from one grouchy old man-type with 400+ years driving everything known to man and beast we've got a nice forum here.

Newbies always welcome though----we're here to help!

Okay now, couple of things.

First of all, if you take umbrage to a new user coming asking for help keep it to yourself or don't post. We're a public forum who always encourages new members to come and participate.

And secondly, if you have an issue with someone else on the forum you can either keep it to yourself or handle it in private. Those are the only two options. Throwing attacks back and forth on a thread where someone came asking for help isn't appropriate.

Absolutely new members are welcome and I'm sure we hit 99.999% at being helpful.

Our frustration is with those who are impatient and/or seek info we can't provide and appear less-than-appreciative for the help/advice they do receive.

We're doing our best but can't be perfect all the time.

You guys do realize this was posted back in 4/14, right? I'd be curious as to if he ever sold it and how much he got for it though. IMO, 74' was the best year for the Econoline, It wasn't the flat nose and it wasn't the new body style starting in 75' That particular style lasted 6 years. When I was about 19yo I had a 74 E100 SWB cargo with the barn doors, It was truly a 70's hippie van, all **** carpet, 2 little bubble windows on the back sides the slotted aluminum wheels. It had the big 6 with 3 sp. I blew the oil pump one day and pulled over to the side of the road. I walked the 3 miles or so home and go the truck and trailer, drove back and my van was gone. I called the local, county and state police to see if they had it towed, I called all the towing companies in the area and no one had see it or towed it. I filed the police report but nothing ever became of it. Someone stole the van, I assume they chopped it or sent it to Mexico. I've been looking for one of the same base so I could build another one, unfortunately I've only come across a couple that would make a good candidate and the owners usually wanted way too much money for it. Some day I'll find one at the right price, hopefully and then the fun of building another ******* wagon begins.

I've been on multiple sites, and have seen these posts many times, the people 'never' become contributing members, they are here to sell the vehicle, nothing more.
