30 dollar third door repair

My 97 f150 third door would not open. I searched junkyards to no avail for good replacement cables. On ebay I was about to buy the top cable for 77 bucks when I saw the ad for aluminum fittings for 30 bucks.

Pure genius!!!!!!!!

The parts were in my mailbox this afternoon and an hour later they were on my truck and the door is fixed for good. I just wanted to share these people in case no one has seen them. They will get excellent feedback from me.

I hope it helps others here.

Pretty surprised that no one has issues with opening the extra cab doors. The beauty of this repair is that you do not have to remove the cable from its impossible to reach location.

You can undo the three screws at the top and fix the latch and then remove the lower end and patch it.

Knock on wood I have not had any issues with my rear doors, but am I to assume that the factory ends are plastic and that is what is breaking?

Exactly right.

I am working on roll out box that will hold all my work tools in the extra cab so that I can keep the full 8 foot bed open for hauling. My third door will be opened and closed quite a bit. I think it will last a long time now.

Those are beautiful!

I was just messing with my third door yesterday. I fixed the top cable with bicycle parts three years ago, and that part is still good, but the bottom cable broke now.

This is a common problem with our trucks. My friend was just telling me that his boss' truck is doing the same thing.

It's a real easy fix but, if you buy the parts from the dealer, the cost is ridiculous!

Good find!

yup, it looks like this...

Good luck with yours.. "be gentle with it", it's junk plastic at the ends of the cables.

That is a good video, but I did mine without removing the cables. I did everything with the parts in the door.

It is still working great. I open the door multiple times daily.

They should've gave her an old cable... looks like it was hard to remove the end on that good cable...

On mine, all that old rubber on the end came off easily with my thumbnail. No knife needed, it was already cracked... and the pieces peeled right off.
