1999 ford explorer
So just got this a few weeks ago and the light switch had fallen back in the dash. So get my tools out and remove the knee dash plat and the metal plate behind it. Reached up to pull it down and had to unscrew the fuse panel on the side to actually reach the switch. So after getting it down,I see the switch has a couple (Or 3,i cant remember) screws. These screws have a piece of plastic on it that is broken off. Is that a part i can buy,is it part of the upper dash??

Not much you can do on that other than go to a salvage yard, or a lot of them on flea-bay. I am sorta in the same boat. a lot of the switches are burned out back light bulbs. some are easily replaced, but other I think you need to be a rocket scientist to do so. Replaced the light in my switch, but if the plastic for receiving the screws is broken, not much to do on that
