2005 Lincoln Aviator

Few questions,

Are sockets , etc, SAE or Metric ?

Going to change brakes & rotors and need to buy or borrow tools. I think you need a star socket to remove brake pads, what size is it?

Also looks like a shield or something has to come off to remove front rotors? Looks like larger size bolts, what size are these?

Thanks for the help

You will not need a star socket to remove the brake pads. That should just require a 10mm socket or box end wrench. These can get pretty tight over time so a 6-point is best. It might be 12mm, I don't have a clear recall. You might need a Torx (star) socket to remove a rotor retainer bolt, but I don't recall that being an issue on my Aviator. To make clearance to remove the rotor you also need to remove the caliper mounting bracket which requires either a 15mm or 16mm socket and probably a breaker bar as well. They are thread locked in place from the factory.
