Aerostar spare tire carrier in a F-1 panel

I was able to get a spare tire carrier off of my Dad's old Aero-star that I scrapped. I lined it up on the F-1 frame in the same location as the original carrier. Had to add angle iron crossmembers to support it.

I didn't want to put a hole in the rear splash in order to access the crank on it so I decided to go through the rear floor. This way the spare can be let down without having to get down on the ground.

I got a sink drain to use through the hole

I got a 90 degree drill adapter and removed the chuck, i then welded a nut onto the threaded end, this will go in the crank tube. The nut was ground to an oval so it would catch in the tube.

I attached it to the drain with PVC pipe and fittings.

And here it is installed.

A 5/8 deep socket is used to crank down the spare.
Total cost was about $25.

Way to re-purpose things! Great idea on the crank setup.

Do you have any more pics of the mount and how it fits in the frame?

I didn't get any more pictures of it while I had the body off, but I'll try to show you the set-up.

The carrier was trimmed as marked.

Carrier was centered on the original tire carrier Eye bolts and centered side to side.

I added the angle iron where needed to hold it. If this doesn't give enough to go on let me know and I'll try to get better pics.
