Help with horn
Got all my wiring in and hooked up on my 64, but the horn does not work. The original relay had 12 volts going to it on the bottom side by side terminal and on the back single terminal. It also had continuity between those 2 terminals. I decided by those 2 symptoms that the relay was bad. I bought a new relay today and now I have 12 v at the bottom side by side terminal and no voltage at the back single terminal. I also do not have continuity between those 2 terminals as the old one had. I checked continuity on the blue yellow wire from the relay to where it plugs to another blue yellow wire at the fire wall and had continuity in that wire. I checked from the fire wall to the turn signal switch on the spring loaded contact thing and had continuity there. I put the wheel on and horn ring on and no horn. I know the horn works because I can jump the 2 terminals that are side by side on the relay and it works. I am at a complete loss as to what the problem is. Anyone with any ideas as to what my problem is????????

The horn brush and its insulator are located in a hole on the outside of the steering wheel, visible when the horn ring is removed.
The brush contains a thin copper wire that snaps.
Within the horn ring itself is the rubber horn blowing pad. It either disintegrates or flattens out. Remove the 3 screws from the nylon retainer and the plate to access it.

The old brushes were bad so I ordered 2 new ones from Dennis Carpenter The rubber pad looks good all 1 piece and seems to be thick enough. I have jumped the brushes with a piece of wire to a known good ground and still nothing. Am I correct in assuming that all the horn button does is complete a circuit to ground? I have even gone as far as running a wire from the single post on the relay to the ground post on the battery to simulate a complete circuit and still nothing.

After 2 days of ohming out wires and brushes and going directly to ground on the relay I don't know how many dozen times and removing the steering wheel and putting it back on at least a dozen times, I finally got a little angry and hit the brand spanking new relay with my hand a pretty good lick while my son was pressing on the horn ring, and low and behold the horn started working. Go figure!
