I am in the final stages of my research for purchasing a new super duty and I am curious about the two different horsepower/torque numbers that you get for these trucks. One is in the 385hp/405tq range and the other is 316hp/397tq. What is the difference? Does it have something to do with towing capacity? Need some help.

Same engine, measured at different RPM's due to some sort of government regulation or industry standard for rating output of engines in trucks above a certain GVWR the RPM has to be different, the exact numbers escape me.

It's the *feel* of the engine that has nothing to do with numbers on paper. The 6.2 winds out like there's no tomorrow, the old 460 in my other truck will pull a house off its foundation at idle. Both get the job done; pulling grades over high mountain passes fully loaded.

For what it's worth, empty I street raced (don't do this at home, kids!) a Raptor from a stoplight one day and amazingly enough, outran him. Not by much, but my truck was a nose ahead the whole time until we both had to back off. I attribute it to the 4.30 gears and smaller diameter tires, since we both have the 6.2.

It is good to hear about the power and torque. My dad had a 5.4 in his previous F-150 and I was never that impressed. I was hoping that the new 6.2 was a different beast. I have not given it the gas pedal test yet because I know as soon as I test one that I am going to want to buy one. My 6.0 psd just seems down on power compared to the 7.3 psd and 6.7 cummins that the trucks on our farm have and I am ready to get out of diesels (too much overhead cost for what we use them for).

I am looking at 3.73 gears for the mileage. Any other suggestions for must's on this truck hunt? I am looking at CC short bed F-250's.

FW= flywheel horsepower

Yes, I would need 4X4 for our snow in the winters and some of the roads that I have to travel for our farm after it rains. Hard to pull a stock trailer out of a muddy pasture with out 4 wheel drive.

Looking for rear wheel horse. With 380hp or so at the flywheel I am looking at the 300 or less range at the wheels? What about torque? 405 at the crank and probably the same 300 range?

My figures are about 327 Hp / 344 Tq. to the ground +/-.
