While dropping the chunk out of my front end, I noticed that there was transmission fluid on the tranny cross member. I have the M5R2 5 speed and suspect it may be coming from the shift plugs.

Where can I find replacement plugs? I have used the search function on this site, and google, but can't find much in the way of a definitive answer other than to use Dorman 555-108 freeze plugs. If I were to use the freeze plugs, do they have to be hammered in and is there room without dropping the tranny? Is there an aftermarket rubber seal? Can you simply remove the ones already being used, slather them in RTV and re-install them?

I have a couple more days off and would like to try to remedy this, any help is appreciated.

 

I did take the top cover off today, the plugs were the culprit. Since I'm limited on time and the parts store didn't have the right size freeze plugs or replacement plugs, I decided to clean the old ones up and RTV'ed them up and shoved them back in.

I did have a thought yesterday, has anyone used any regular rubber stoppers like would be used in a bottle? I had one and it fit well, a little long but nice and snug.
