Exclamation Transmission Cooler Lines help please.

Hi guys,

I need ANY kind of info you can provide about transmission cooler lines for a 1988 E-150 cargo van, with the 300 cu.in., inline 6 in it.......I think it has a C6 transmission, but it has no overdrive in It, so I'm unsure.

I'm only as mechanically inclined as a tree in the woods, so please excuse my ignorance on all this stuff.

I've got two bad leaks; one on each of my trans cooler lines.

One of my buddies, who is an ASE certified mechanic looked at it, and copied my V.I.N. # off the van.
He tried to order the lines through his shop, and through a local Ford dealership, but they're not available anymore.

I've got all this week off from work, so I'd like to get this taken care of a.s.a.p., so I can drive the thing to a transmission shop, and auto repair shop, to get the tranny, and engine serviced/ tuned up.

Anybody know where I can buy the trans lines, in order to replace them, or do I have to have someone engineer something that will work?

If any of you know of a member here, who knows about these kind of problems, please send him a link to this thread, b/c I need all the help I can get.

My budget is kinda small, so any $$ saving ideas will definitely be appreciated.

Thanks in advance fellas!!!

Anybody?.......I hate to have to admit this, but I'm having to live in the van right now, b/c things are tough for me at this point in my life. (I'm an Army veteran, but the local V.A. owned motel doesn't have any rooms available right now.)

I need to get this problem fixed a.s.a.p., b/c I need to drive it to a transmission place for servicing, and I won't have a place to crash while it's in their shop........I wanna get it in and out, before my week's vacation from work is up....It's HARD to get time off where I work.

I have a loaner Crown Vic to drive around while this van will be in the shop, but I can't sleep in the car.....not enough leg room.

Anybody know of a place online that sells those AT cooler lines...I'll order 'em today, and have 'em express shipped......I appreciate any help that someone can throw my way.

Thanks fellas.

Get transmission fluid rated rubber hose. You do not need to replace the lines with steel. Steel is used at the factory because it's cheaper and easier to install. It's REALLY hard to install with the engine and trans in the van. Rubber is the way to go.

Locate the leaks, cut the lines at the hole, then use a short section of cooler hose to splice the steel lines. Double clamp the hose. Once this is done, you're good to go, no need to replace the lines.
