So it's getting close to buy tires. I have been running 285/75/16 BFG KO's but only got about 30k out of them. Not the best for money. So I have been reading about the Michelin LTX AT and they get killer reviews. They also are more expensive than most tires but if they last 60k I am in. So for those who run these tires either in the 265 or 285 sizes how do you like them? What kind of mileage are you getting?

I have had several sets of Michelin LTX over the years, not on my Superduty. If you like that type of tire, they have been great on my wife's Expedition. That's the only tire it has ever had on it until this last set we got Yokahama's because it's an extra car now.. I forget the mileage it has now, but it got over 60K out of the last set.

 

I have the 285's in the LTX M/S2 style and they seem to be wearing well. I like the wet traction they have for these Seattle roads. 60K is typical in my experience. They are quiet as well - maybe not so important with a diesel, but helpful.

 

Did you ever rotate your BFG's? I am on my 5th set and have gotten consistently close to 60k rotating then every oil change between 5 and 7 thousand miles, with both the load range E and D. I run 285/75/16 at ko's. The load range E had or has a 50k warranty so you should be able to get some satisfaction if you bought them locally. That being said I too have read the LTX M/S2 reviews and ordered a set Tuesday. I have an appointment to have them installed this coming Tuesday. They have a 70k mile warranty so in then end it works out to about $300 cheaper and I get an extra 9 months between tire changes if they go that long ( I have read internet reports of 100k on them but I won't hold my breath). If they don't hold up americas has taken good care of me in the past with mileage issues and I do not doubt they would again. I made the mistake of putting a set off $500 Falkons on once with a 50k warranty, at 30k they where done and Americas tire gave me $330 toward a new set of BFG's no questions asked. If you haven't pulled the trigger by next Tuesday I'll let you know initial impressions, in 6 months or so I should be able to gauge wear with around 15k on them and give mileage predictions.

 

My opinion on the OP is YES. I saw what looked like a nice set of tires on a truck on my route at work and I just had to see what they were. (To me nice is...Lot of rubber on the road with plenty of gaps for traction and cuts for water to escape with a design that does not look too noisy). The tires were pretty dirty and I couldn't see too much but I was able to see that they were Michelins. I'll check the treads at the dealer when it's time for tires. Just my opinion.

 

YES. Went through many Load Range E tires before getting the Michelins...they ride so much better than anything else I had (Firestone, Pirelli, Bridgestone Dueler Revos, etc.). Don't know if I will ever put anything else on the Excursions for long-term use. Love them. And the 285s are nicer than the 265s, but lower your MPG some.

 

Yes I have rotated them quite often. I puurchased them from discount tire online. I emailed them about the warranty so we will see what they say.

 

I had the AT2 Michelins and the outer edge was wearing more than the rest of the tire no matter what I did. Rotating all the time, changing tire pressures, new ball joints you name it. then I found out that this was a common issue as my friend with an 07 F350 had the same problem. I also heard that Michelin was aware of it and then changed something to address the problem. FYI they were very nice riding and handling tires. I did not find them any good in cold weather and snow.

 

I tried them on my truck once. Got less than 50k out of them and haven't given them a second thought since.

Seems like all the guys around here with diesel trucks don't get more than 30k out of any tires. Except for the old Firestone steel tecs.

 

I don't buy anything else, a little over 70k on my last set

 

I've been running Cooper tires. The HT's get me over 70k. The ATR's start to wear funny around 60k

 

I've had good luck with the LTX's. I have a set on my steer axle with over 40k miles and they still look great.
I'll either get another set or go back to BFG commercial T/A's. (Also made by Michelin, and a little cheaper than the LTX)
I run Michelin tires on my truck, camper & motorcycle.

 

I have just over 20k on the MS-2 and the look good so far. I rotate every 5000 mi. They are great on the highway but don't have the traction I would like to have in some places we pull the horse trailer for trail rides, like grassy hilly areas.

 

I was worried about that, I carry my snow chains year round but haven't had to ever use them with BFG AT KO's. I imagine with the michelins I may need them occasionally to pull my horse trailer in the slick grass and such.....or just bring some pulling harnesses and put the boys to work
