PCV Valve question for 1992 460

Hello-

Giving my truck a tune up and found that the Motorcraft part number called for is an EV-221 which is a metal PCV valve that that is threaded on one side.

I looked at the PCV that is on my truck and it is a Motorcraft EV-68 that is plastic and plugs into valve cover through a rubber grommet that is on valve cover. The grommet is very worn and the PCV valve simply pulled out without much effort.

I am confused why the difference in PCV part numbers and not matching to my vehicle year? I reversed check the EV-68 and could not find a match for my truck. The EV-68 is not listed as being used in my truck.

Thoughts, explanation?
Thanks

The parts store should have the fitment. If your grommet is hardened, it's time to replace it. Be careful when removing the old one that no chunks of it get left behind. I've an 89, the grommet had to be broken up to remove it. Replacement was very easy with a dab of oil.

Dealer said that 1991 used the EV-68 and that 1992 began using a EV-149, both of which a re not was is listed on both Rock Auto and O'Reilys. The truck was one owner, so I am going to replace with what is in there now, the EV-68. I will replace the grommet and be sure no pieces fall inside valve cover.

BTW....If I were to use the EV-149 or EV-221, the hole where the grommet goes appears to big for the threaded PCVs (if grommet were removed? This tells me that it was designed for a grommet type PCV and not the threaded version. Perhaps the build date of 1991 has something to do with this (sticker on door lists manuf date as 9/91.

Thoughts?
