c6 transmission install

Getting ready to put a c6 transmission in. The torque converter clicked down twice and I spent about half an hour trying to see if I could get it to go down any further. It is a little over an inch from the base of the converter to flexplate studs to the edge of housing. I measured from the back of block to edge of flexplate, bolt holes sit down maybe 1/16" from teeth edge. I am coming up with 1/8" to 1/4" of the studs not clearing the flexplate. Everyone says you should be able to move a converter free of flexplate when tranny and motor are together. Anybody have suggestions?

On this site it sounds like the studs shouldn't be free of flexplate as it says to leave a gap between tranny and block to align. Is this correct?
