How much should a fender flare stick out?

What is everyone's opinion on how much a fender flare should stick out past the edge of the tire?

I know if you go too much it looks bad. What's a safe look? 1", 2"?

Currently my truck has nothing at all for flares and the front tires are dead even with the fender lip at the front and about 3/4" inward on the rear from the fender lip.

I have 295's 33's on the stock 18" rims.

I think it's a personal opinion...I don't like the flare to go much past the tire. But I know a friend who got ticketed in Moab for having his tires stick out past his flares on a heavily modified 4X4.

I vote enough to cover to edge of tire and call it a day. Personally not a fan of more flare than rubber

Personally? Dead flush if you can. Otherwise 0.25-0.75' coverage at the most for me.

I vote for pretty much flush too, maybe a inch at max of coverage would look ok.

for function tires should be completely covered by fender or flare.....but for hey check out my ride looks at least even, or slightly uncovered for a bolder more aggressive look

I wouldn't even put fender flares on a truck unless the truck was lifted and had negative offset wheels. IMO, anything besides OEM flares look funny on stock height or leveled trucks. But you know what they say about opinions.
