RetroAir AC unit

Has anyone used these guys? I am looking for the cheapest way to get some cold air into the truck. Nostalgic Air is $1k, others up to $1,400.

This universal kit is $600
Aftermarket- Universal Full Air Conditioning Kits

I would love to hear of other places, or ways to get cold into the cab.

Looks like a sweet deal. You have to come up with your own a/c bracket is only drawback......salvage yard should have those.......

Ya, I like the prices. I've been keeping my eye out for something for my old Mack truck. Vintage air stuff is pricey, even for the old school under dash unit like Retro air is showing.

I'm definitely bookmarking that website!

that is a sanden type compressor, the stock bracket is for a York type, so you'll have to do some fabbing of the oem bracket to fit the new compressor.

That bolts on top of the stock your bracket. But if you don't have an idler pulley for belt adjusting you'll have to fab up a way to adjust the belt.

Or get the other bracket for the sanden that has the adjustments arms built on to it.. I fab up so the compressor will slid to adjust the belt. Works for me.

If you have a floor shift the stick may need to be heated and bent for clearance issues when in 3th gear. As this was what I had to do with my unit. Now with the 5pd o/d the shift stick is back a few inch's farther..

Automatic, shouldn't be a problem for me. I do remember the issue with the 69 I had in high school. Had to shift with the palm going into certain gears... or get knuckle busted.

I went with Nostalgic Air, air/heat unit in my 77 highboy and I'm very happy with it. The main reason was I wanted a factory look. The unit is small, the engine compartment is uncluttered compared to factory, they modified my existing controls and it blows 38 degrees at the vent. Questions were answered promptly and the instructions were straightforward. I took my time and it came out great. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Hope this helps.

PM me if you need a York compressor bracket for an FE engine. The Sanden bracket bolts onto it.
