1978 F250 Differential Swap
Hi there! I have a 1978 f250 that I am doing a Cummins swap on. My truck right now has a Dana 60 Rear, and Dana 44 front. My father has given me a 1990 F350 with a sterling 10.25 rear axle and a Dana 60 front. I have removed the Dana rear end off of the '78 and the Sterling rear end off the '90 and have easily swapped them around. It will bolt right up with no issues. I have found a problem with the front axles though. The Dana 60 on the '90 has much longer leaf springs than the Dana 44 on the '78, and they are wider on the '90 as well. Another problem that I have run into is the mounting system. On the '78 the shackle for the back of the front leaf spring is mounted through a a large hole in the frame with a bracket on the inside, where the '90 uses a shackle that is mounted on the outside of the frame. Also, the frame at the front of the '90 is wider than the frame on the '78. Will this be a problem at all? If anybody has done a differential swap like this, it would be greatly appreciated if you could help answer some of my questions.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
