new style body panels, which will work?

hello im looking to make my 99 350 look a little more modern. i have tracked down 08-12 tow mirriors. will they work? i also have a 09 superduty tailgate, does it bolt up? the finally question is has anyone attempted a 13-14 superduty front end swap on these older 7.3? ive heard of the 08-10 front end swap being done, if anyone knows of any tech write ups or can point me in the right direction of doing that, id greatly appreciate it.

The new tow mirrors will work. I'd buy the aftermarket ones from our 1A-Auto for $369 a set. The new front end, well that's ground that isn't a setup-by-step process. It's been done but takes work. A body shop can help you as it isn't a bolt on job.

what about the 08 front end? is it a bolt on front end or does it require custom work as well? and thanks for the tip on the mirrors!

08+ requires body shop work. There are a few threads talking about the amount of work.

Cobrabo88, Please take a chill pill and slow down some for us.

You just got here and have purchased a truck with 300k miles on it as you say.
You need to get the mechanics right before you start doing body stuff unless you have unlimited $$ and DEEP pockets.

The best advise I can give you personally is to upgrade to the '05-'07 Front end, that's fairly easy, the '08 up tailgate WILL fit but requires swapping the striker for the later style.

The '08 up mirrors WILL work, you just have to grind 1 plastic stud off of them as I've heard to make them fit the earlier truck, plus some of the aftermarket ones COME WITH an adaptor plug, but you'll have to run new wires for the running and signal lights.

Well i dont let the grass grow under my feet if thats what your asking. The truck is getting completely redone and im going to do my best to have it done in a few months time. Just trying to get ideas on what can be done to these trucks. I love the look of the 08 but if the 05 body is easier, ill just go that route. Here is another question for you though. How good are the six speed manuals in these trucks? Will they hold 50hp or will i need to go through it as well?

Its certainly no bother my friend, btw, WELCOME to the FTE!!

Just look through some older threads and you will most likely find the info you need.

Some guys feel that swapping to the '05-'07 front end makes it look like a 6.0 truck....I currently have the '02-'04 headlights and clear corners on my LATE '99 Dually-I swapped FROM the old foggy, hazy earlier lights.

I also have the specially cut-down '05-'07 grille, and '05-'07 badges on the tailgate and fenders.

I am collecting the parts to do the '08 up tailgate and rear bumper, and the '05-'07 complete front end.

I am an old fashioned trucker......I personally see no need to hop-up MY reliable 7.3.....MINE is all stock except a 203* TStat and a bypass coolant filter setup........I get 17mpg at 2000rpm on the highway.....Dually 2wd with 4.10 gears.....I run 99.9% Bio-Diesel....

ok cool. have you had any problem running the bio fuel? ive heard it wears out injectors cloggs filters ect. is there any truth to that? and cool beans. sounds like we have the same truck lol. i dont want to get stupid with the truck i just want it to look clean and respectable and reliable power. it wont be going to truck pulls but i know me and it will be locking chains from time to time with brand x trucks lol. i saw in one diesel mag where they sell the whole front end new for like 1200 i think. and correct me if im wrong, this is a bolt in set up right?

Welcome to FTE. Is your truck an E99 or L99? IF you want more power for an E99 one of the best mods for power is swapping out the smaller 15* HPOP to the 17* HPOP.Changing over to an 08 front end does require a lot of fabrication, I personally like and went with the 05-07 head lights kept the stock grill went with 05-07 mirrors I like the look better than the 08 but the 08 functions a lot better I did have to rewire them to have heat, turn and running lights. A buddy on the super duty side of the forum is doing an 08 dash setup but he as to do a lot of fabrication to make it work.

Not sure where your at in Texas, but here's a number of a Diesel Mechanic in the Houston area that came highly recommended to me by Nate Bailor of Unlimited Diesel. His name is Dorian Reyna owner Operator of PSE 832-738-3983. I didn't acquire his services, but I spoke to him on the phone during the time I was having my truck worked on in the area. I was having issues with the mechanic that was working on my truck and he helped me over the phone on resolving the issues, and what to look for.

In 1998 Ford closed down all their factory's (hints why there are no 98 super duty's) to retool all the factories. In Early 99 they used a lot of parts that where used in the 97 F-Series combined with a lot of new parts that where going in the Late 99 trucks, you will also hear the phase 99.5. To find out if you'r truck is an E99 look on the driver side door jam and look for the manufacture date on the sticker if it's later than I believe 12/98 then it's an E99. Also if you a driving with cruise control on E99 does not show an idiot light on the dash where the L99 (99.5) will indicate in green "cruise".

This will also help you out a lot when ordering parts for your truck cause a lot of parts for a L99 (99.5) will not work on an E99. As far as motor goes not so much for the body.
Check this thread out it will help determine what your truck is
