Real world MPG - Ecoboost specifically.

I may sell my current truck and have recently considered a f150 with the 3.5 eco. Everything Ive read (mind you not a whole lot) says guys are getting 20 and lower mpg's? I did search, most info is not current that I found on here.
Been looking at a 2014 fx4 crew cab with 3.5. Window sticker says 20 city and 30 hwy......cant be true?
Ive been driving the f250 work truck with the 6.2l and its got a bit of jam but not overly impressed honestly. Maybe im spoiled with my tuned 6.4?

Appreciate any and all info. Thanks.

Mine is a 2013 screw 4x4 with 3.73 axle and Max tow. I get, in Canadian Mileage 15.6 litres/100 km overall since I bought it last June. That translates to about 18.5 mpg for the old school types. My city/hwy is about 70/30. When I do get it out on the highway for a while I can easily get 22 or 23 mpg at around 110 to 115 kph. Roughly 70 mph. However if I push down on that pedal and spin those turbos up, that mileage drops off quick enough. So lots depends on how you drive it. Like most turbocharged engines.

2013 2wd

3500 miles and I get a solid 18.4 or so. Haven't seen in the 20's yet, but haven't done any long trips.

If MPG's are what's attracting you to the ecoboost then stay away from the FX trucks as they will have the 3.55.1 or the 3.73.1 axles unless that's changed for the 2014 MY.

My 2011 XLT 4x4 with the 3.31 axles is getting a solid 22= on the freeway. Yesterday I completed a 200 mile trip coming home from my daughter's college in the mountains and I got 23.5 avg. doing 70 all the way.

Most guys who are buying these ecoboost trucks to tow aren't getting in the 20's sustained. Power requires fuel.

I'm getting 19 all day in mixed driving but I bought mine as a commuter and to haul some household stuff that we all occasionally need.

In reality, so many guys here are getting PO'd about their MPG's feeling like Ford duped them. Ford didn't lie to anyone, just buy what you need / want and keep all things in perspective. A commuter isn't going to tow heavy and a tow vehicle isn't going achieve great MPG's.

I have a 13 Screw 4X4 6.5 box with 3.31s. I drive mostly short trips of 10 miles or less and during the winter I got about 16.3. On the few longer trips I get I get about 19.5 but with only 13k I expect that to improve

My '13 FX4 3:55 gear Ecoboost sees anywhere from 15-19mpg. That's a mix of hwy/city.

Towing, I have seen the worst of 7.5mpg, and the best of 12.0mpg
The problem with this truck is it tows so smoothly, you lose track of speed, and find yourself doing 80mph!

Mine is 2013 4x4 off road w/ eco, supercrew, 3:55. I get 17.5 highway at 74 mph.
I have gotten as high as 19mpg at 60 mph on a relatively flat road but that is it.
I had a 2011 same truck and I got the same mpg as the 2013.
Seems like the 4x4 and 3:55 combo and real world highway of 74 mph will not get the 20 mpg that others are seeing with different trucks.

2013 Platinum.
Per the door sticker she's just shy of 6100lbs as she sits.
3.5EB, 3.31s with 4wd. 5.5' bed.

Only had her since January. Had 4400mi on it when I took the keys. Put another 2600mi on it since then. Truck shows 15.4mpg for the life of the 7100mi, and I'm personally averaging about 13.7mpg for those 2600mi.

I travel a short 6mi city commute daily. I see 13mpg in the cold weather in town and have seen 19mpg on some highway stretches. She's a heavy girl with all those Platinum add ons, but I'm happy with the increase over the last truck.

My Fuelly.com stats are linked to the banner in my signature. Clicking on that will take you to my fill ups.

Everybody else is talking in us mpg and not UK mpg. 15.6 litres per 100k translates to just under 15 US mpg because the US gallon is smaller.

You are right. That's why I said Canadian. Still Im am satisfied with my mileage. Someone earlier said that with more power come poorer Mileage. People need to keep in mind, it's a approximately a 5800 lb pickup truck. 15 years ago, you would only get around 10 mpg in a truck with this much power. So I don't think we're doing to bad here.

Hey Longview1,
I drive 30 highway miles to work. I get over 21 mpg with my 2013 4x4 Ecoboost Supercrew with 3.31 gears. I have about 3500 miles on it now.

Thanks everyone.
So, it would be pretty dang hard to coerce 30mpg out of one, even on the highway!! lol

Anyway, have a better idea of real world/peoples experience. I can get 16, maybeee 17 on the highway in my dually, with 3.73s and 35s. In town, especially in winter, my mpg is basically nonexistant. Tough decisions!!

I think a lot has to do with the terrain that you drive. I have about 6600 on my 13 with 331's and my life time millage is about 15.2. I was hoping for better, and hopefully some warmer weather and summer fuel with help. (its been cold since i bought it at the end of October) I drive about 14 miles each way to work, about 11 on the express way, but its up and down pretty big hills hear in nky. I also try and drive her pretty easy to try and squeak a few more mpg out of it, like setting cruise on the express way at about 66-68. I have taken one trip with it and got about 17.5 and I was a little disappointed.

You won't even see 30 with a strong tailwind going downhill!

I get around 20-21 mpg going 32 miles to work on cruise at 65 mph. I have 3.73 gearing.
