11,300 lb Towing Capacity Questions
Hey guys. I am thinking about buying myself a new F-150. The big hype is F-150s ability to tow 11,300 lbs. Of course you gotta scroll to the bottom of the page to read
*When properly equipped
So I started building my own truck on Fords website. I was about to scream! I couldn't for the life of me find out how to max out towing specs to 11,300. I found ONE truck I could equip heavy enough to make the 11,300 mark and that was a FX4, EcoBoost, with 4.10s. No other trim could be equipped with 4.10s (minus the Raptor of course. Can you believe theyre only rated to tow 6000 lbs?!)
Is this an internet glich? Or can I walk into a dealership and say, "HEY! I want a danged STX EcoBoost with some 4.10 gears!" and they can special order it?

Ignore my previous statement... I just assumed you had to have 4.10s to get the max trailer tow package, but it turns out you can get the same results with 3.73s.
If this question is beating a dead horse, then a mod can delete it if so wished. If not, how many of you guys have actually towed a large trailer with their EcoBoost? How about a 5.0?

Just brought my 10,000lbs boat and trailer back from Florida,1400 miles. 2014 Eco 4x4 FX4. Max Tow Truck had more than enough to handle load. For piece of mind due a little research from towing specs from years past and you will find that today's Eco Max Tow has more towing capacities than Super Duty's of years ago.
For the people on here that say it can't handle the load they are either misinformed or just don't know what their talking about.
Your right though, truck has to be properly equipped to handle 11,300.
If it was not for the legal system Ford and other manufactures could rate their towing capacities higher than they do. The manufactures are fully aware that the average consumer will push or exceed OE specs. Example, looked at my class V oem hitch I took off my 2008 F-350 Powerstroke. Ford specs, Max tongue weight 650lbs. max carrying weight 6000lbs. Max tongue weight for F-150 with Max Tow 500lbs. max carrying weight without WD 5000.
Go figure.

I'll agree with the WD hitch being a requirement above 5k, however all the loads that Tom demonstrated in the post above were with the factory GY Wrangler SRA's that are a P-metric tire. They would not be sending these trucks out the door with tires incapable of carrying the rated load. LT tires would be an upgrade, but not required
Currently, the STX trim level is not available with the EB engine, Funny thing is it is available in almost every other level (except raptor).
4.10 gears are not available on the EB (Except the Tremor package)
I think you would be pleased with the 3.73's if you are looking for towing heavy loads. The 6R80 trans has a much lower 1st gear (4.17) than your outgoing 4-speed in the v10. The rear gear isn't the limiting factor that it used to be. Here is a comparison of the ratios:

So I went from a 2002 F250 CC V10 to my current 2012 FX4 CC Eco-boost. My around town daily drive went from 9.9 to 17.1. My towing milage (I have a small trailer aroung 4.5K) went from 15 to 14. My current truck tows better and is just as stable, but the V10 just did not even know the trailer was there, now the Eco does. Steven

You musta had one in a million lol. Or maybe mines not quite running right...
And Robb, I didn't see your table before. If your talking about the 4 speed in my V10, its not a 4R75E, its a 4R100. 1st gear is actually higher than that @ 2.71...
That 1st gear in the F-150s 6 speed is AMAZING!
