Idea Hopper for G2G's
I get these ideas from everyone, but I don't always remember them. Dummy has given me a few, but I've lost 'em over time.
I recall G2G idea near Manzanar but don't remember if it was one of these: The concrete airstrip.. The old railroad depot down Lone Pine Narrow Gage Road...reward mine...and the terminus of the Salt Tram nearby. A hard hike...Forgotten Pass is there....also the Pat Keys trail...poking around in the Alabama Hills could be fun too.
Trains and rolling stock located in Griffith Park at Travel Town, which is also the home of the LA Live Steamers.
Anyway, closer to home is good too. Cough 'em up and I'll never forget 'em with this hyar thread.

Is the Ridge Route still open up on the I 5? Some nice roads back up there.
Might be too late this year but the poppy fields are amazing when in full bloom up near Palmdale.
Another fun trip could be up Texas Cyn on the Sierra Pellona ridge. Lots of trails with some pretty scenery. Wonder if the fire tower is still up there?
Sespe Creek condor area up above Fillmore?
Lots to see.

Tech days tend to be somewhat engine-group specific, though there are exceptions to every rule.
As you are aware, the 7.3 guys get together all over the country, but there aren't many active FTE'rs here in SoCal, especially not with ones needing work. Jason just moved to Colorado, and Trey to Bakersfield.
Bill (gramicko) is over in Burbank, but we hardly hear from him. Chet (Bonanza35) is out in the Norco area, but I think he's going to Andy's (better known as "Man Town") at the end of May. People from all over the Bay Area really come out for that. I have driven up there once, and Clay sometimes comes down from Oregon for it.
Since there are so few of us 7.3'ers, I guess we've just never seen the need for one.
But, there's always a First Time!

Got it.
I saw Stewart's invite to "Man Town" - are you going?
I thought about going but I've told my insurance company that I drive my truck less than 3,000 miles per year. If I drove up, I'd blow a good portion of my mileage allowance on that trip. Plus, I still lack confidence in the truck after what happened when I first bought it in Sacramento.
It sure would be fun though.
I had the opportunity to meet Bruce and Donna (NV FTE chapter) on my trip to Reno - great people.
I guess I'll just have to stop making excuses and head over to a local Socal meeting.

Top 15 according to today's paper.
Last time there, Had a newbie biker try to stop right on the banked turn across from the tavern. He stopped, lost his balance, and fell off the hwy and down the steep bank.
Helped him pick up his big old cruiser after he picked himself up, shook off the leaves, and swallowed some humble pie.
Nice view of the Cold Springs bridge as you leave northbound below it.

How does a tech g2g work? Does someone volunteer their truck for engine work or upgrade and everyone else watches or do all the trucks get worked on simultaneously and everyone helps everyone else?

Kinda' like the latter description.
Lotsa' little projects going on and a couple more major ones. Where specialized labor is needed, that's where it goes.
Example: Last time I was at one, I did the "Hutch and Harpoon". Instead of dropping my tank, I lifted the bed off. After unbolting everything necessary, six other guys picked up my bed and set it on the grass. Then, I pulled the tank apart while a couple of others watched me go through the process, since they were going to do it at a later date. Later, I had help getting the bed back in place.
In another project, someone was pulling injectors for someone who had never previously had his valve covers off.
But it's not all work and no play, either, as evidenced by this old fart having some fun:

Yes, it's pretty cool. It has an A-12, SR-71, drones, engines and the like. It's just a couple miles off the 14 Frwy.
