Stateside, we're paying aprx. $4/gallon for diesel. The "pails" of oil here are 5-gallon, and even the cheapest oil is aprx. $40/pail, so about twice the price of fuel. So Canada is experiencing cheaper oil, and more expensive fuel, than we get.

So why does that article, after talking about getting rid of the throttle and spark plugs, show an animated diagram of an Otto-cycle engine?

I think the concept in the article was using a diesel pilot injection to ignite the gasoline instead of a spark plug, thus igniting it far better than from a single spark.

And as far as the oil being cheaper, yes the engine oil is slightly more, but has higher BTU content than diesel, so more BTU's per dollar $ .

Ohh, okay, I getcha.

Well, heck, I'd love to try it in my 6.0 (matter of fact, I found a cubie of virgin salad oil that had expired for half price at Wally World the other day) but I'd probably better get the other issues ironed out before I start on the alternative fuels again. It's not nearly as forgiving as my IDIs were.

No, not at all.
Something I didn't know, was that some veg oils can really degrade into "skins" and "chunks" when being heated, so not only is filtering a major thing, but also what type of oil, and if it will be stable when heated, and stored, sitting in fuel lines, etc.
Just cause it's been filtered and dewatered, doesn't mean it's going to work.

Different oils also burn different, I have a little air cooled diesel, and when you fuel it on furnace oil or straight veggie oil, it knocks a lot louder than on diesel from the gas station.
I'm guessing from lower cetane values than road diesel. So you'd also want a cetane booster to keep from putting extra stress on the head gaskets. IMHO.

The anatomy of 7.3 and 6.0 injectors should really work the best with waste oils, in theory, than other injection systems. In practice, they are expensive injectors and the quality of the prep done on most waste oils is less than what I'd consider running in them.

Wouldn't it be better to just retard the timing a little?
If you use a luminosity probe, you ought to be able to adjust your timing to be perfect for whatever you end up throwing in the engine.

Yeah but if you plan on burning a bunch of different fuels, is it easier to add cetane booster to some, or adjust the timing for some?

Remember them? Hell, between two of my friends, there are three of them close at hand.

my source dried up, 0-20 full syn, and ATF but have some saved for rainy day, 50/50 still runs great, diesel is around 47 cetane some mineral oils are 70, mineral oil is used as industrial coolant (transformers), to much gasoline and you will have problems, not limited to IP wearing out. wife drags horse's no starting problems, no smoke, timeing 7.5* BTDC factory fuel system.
