I have an 01 F350 4x4 and my driveway its on an incline, twice this has happened when i put it in park and it starts clicking and rolling backwards till i press the brakes. It has 208k on the trans. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Crawl under the dash on the driver's side. Look up the steering column. There are two #30 Torx bolts that hold the shift cable bracket to the shift tube. They can loosen and cause this problem.
Mark,
Would that be the same for a 98 e-150 van? Ours has started doing that the past week or two. All the gears line up perfectly and none of the other gears have problems staying engaged.
On my E-350 it was one of the clamps on the shift tube that broke because the torx screws worked loose. New clamp new bushings tightened it all down and adjusted at trans. Now everything stays tight and lines up except park for some reason.
