My '62 has the same heater box assembly. I was wondering how you made that setup work with a vent ****, then saw lighter on the bezel - cool! Mine's in the paint shop now without a committed color choice, although a medium blue keeps returning to my thoughts. I love your choice of color - you've done a beautiful job!!!

Skidoor.. could you open your hood and take a few photos of where and how you shimmed it for me? That would really help me out. I want to try the shims and see if it will make mine a little better. Thanks

Heading to the mountains to go snowmobiling tomorrow. We have had a little over 3 ft of snow so far this year, I have shoveled snow everyday since Christmas day and really don't want to shovel anymore tonight. I will be back from riding Sunday and will shovel out to the shop then and get some pictures taken and post them. Sometimes I daydream about living in Florida then I go snowmobiling and I am reminded why I love Montana.

Hey I'm jealous you're getting to go snowmobiling! Been to Montana before. Went to Billings with my grandparents back when I was 13 for a month long summer motorhome trip. Beautiful out there! We drove up and went to Yellowstone afterwards. I'm a lucky guy to have had awesome grandparents like I did.

Did you say 3ft of snow? LOL. I could have gone to the beach about a week ago! 75 and humid here. Don't worry about the pics if you have to shovel snow to get them! Whenever you get a chance to get into garage take em then. I really appreciate it. Put up a pic or two of the snowmobiling. I'm sure it's gorgeous now.

here is a link that shows the washer trick for the hood in picture detail . doesn't cure the crushed hood brace issue but it is a quick fix none the less .

Hope this helps .

RMK73 here is the right side. I can only upload 1 pic at a time without my computer locking up so there will be several posts of hood and sledding

Really cool pictures! Looks like it was a lot of fun! On the hood shimming, it looks like you put some kind of washer in between the back bolt on hood hinge.. My mind is saying that would lift the back of the hood up but clearly your hood looks awesome! How does this trick work? LOL

The shims are body shims used for shimming panels out so body lines align. They can be bought at any body shop supply store. The truck works good. The 292 was always a torque motor. Pretty old school but runs well

Actually there is an update. We pulled the motor due to head gaskets leaking anti freeze. We studded the block with ARP stud kit and used a Best Gasket gasket set. We installed a Mummert valley cover because the Rex cover I bought from Rex was a poor casting and was porous and oil was coming up through it. How I have no idea? Mummerts valley cover is 1000 times more superior than the Rex cover. Got the motor back in last night and hit the key and it fired up on the first revolution. This was after it had been pulled apart and sat for almost 3 weeks. Gonna take it for a drive after work tomorrow. Need to get it back in and have it buffed out 1 more time and it will be 100% complete. Or will it? Forgot to mention I replaced the Offenhauser valve covers with T Bird finned covers. The offy's will find their way back on just to change things up now and then. Also there is a man who is making another set of aluminum covers that are a blend of finned and the stamping that the original tin covers had that went over the sides. They look cool so I may get a set of them also.

A great build profile.
You and family doing it together - awesome.

I've got an all-original 1963 F100 Shortbox unibody that I purchased from the original owner in 2004 from up in Alaska. Its a gem like yours. I'll be doing a V8 swap from the old 223/3 spd to a 302 'clevor' with an AOD.
My two boys are 22 & 23 yrs old, just finishing trade school & university in May, and just now getting inspired to help my get the truck out of storage and begin to proceed with my plan.
I will be showing them your build thread and hope it inspires them further, especially since the youth today tend to want things done immediately. Fortunately for us, we don't have to deal with any body rot issues, just some small dents and hopefully straightening the truck bed floor...

Good luck with your truck going forward! You live in Montana, correct?
