Ok I remembered that I had the lean codes a few months ago where I had to clean the MAS Airflow sensor. Afterward I eliminated the service engine light by disconnecting the battery, so I never erased those codes. So I'm going to ignore them for now. I am trying to change the spark plugs and the two I tried the bolt for the ignition coils busted, so now I will have to drill and tap those. I soaked the others with WD 40 penetrating oil. Hopefully they will go easier tomorrow. Any advice on removing them so I don't bust anymore?

PB blaster IMO is better than WD40 for penetrating. Some recommend Kroil though. Take your time, use anti-seize on the plugs and cop bolts. Also plenty of die-electric grease on the cop where it connects to the plug. For those small bolts use a 1/4" sized ratchet if you aren't already. For the plugs just go slow trying to preserve the threads.

Did you double check nr 5 ?
Was it a dry or wet compression test?

Dry test, with the exception of spraying WD-40 Penertrating oil on the old spark plugs to soak before removal. Tested #5 like 6 times. I just couldn't believe it registered nothing.

Yeah that's one of the possiblities. Not sure... I think it would be affecting more cyclinders though... Either way I'm thinking the engine has to go. Where would be the best place to get a rebuild 6.8L Triton?

This seems to be the best I've found.

Ford V10 Engines

Anyone order from them or know a better place?

What Oil & Filter

FWIW, have had excellent luck with Amsoil 0W-30 Signature Series oil & Amsoil filter in all my current vehicles 2000 6.8L Excursion, 2004 3.9 TBird, 2010 3.5 SHO.

No consumption between changes on SHO @ 40,000 miles or Tbird with 5000 miles on annual change. (Yes, TBird is rather a toy)

Excursion will be down about half a quart at 1200 miles or so and I was also advised by Ford master mechanic that this was "normal". My counter to him that my wife's two prior Crown Vics modular V-8's used no oil between changes with engines logging 120,000+ miles.

Just traded my daughter's 2003 V-6 Explorer @ 174496 miles - absolutely zero consumption on annual - or 15000 - change. Converted it from Motorcraft 5W-30 dino @ 65,000 miles years ago.

Do not particularly use Amsoil for Eco reasons - just like the idea of once a year change and disposal for 4 vehicles rather than every 3/4 months for each. Also perhaps 5% better fuel mileage than dino - and dino starts shearing by 1000 miles and 5W-20 dino is no longer 5W-20 after 3000 miles. Although not a petroleum engineer, do have an engineering background.
Not a dealer, not trying to sell Amsoil. Just passing along what works for me.

Do you guys have any thoughts on this oil filter? It seems that I have a remote filter mount with one of these:

Lifetime Oil Filters | PurePower! Inc. Lifetime Filters and High Performance Lubricants

The pureplus is the gas to liquid technology that was previously only used in the Pennzoil Ultra line. Appears to be top notch stuff.

It doesnt even appear available for the V10. Why do you need it though when the FL820s can be purchased everywhere? There cheap enough as well and manufactured by Ford.
