What was your 1st vehicle? Like to have it back?
Hey guys and gals. Some things said in another thread made me want to start this thread. How many of you wish you had your 1st or 2nd vehicle back? I know I do. Let me/us here back from all you who do! I'll start.
1965 Triumph TR-4. British racing Green. Black interior with white piping. Contemorary radio at the time with negative ground adaptor. Genuine wire wheels that had real spinners that held them on. Factory leather mallot to remove spinners. 4CYL engine with factory dual carbs. Bought from my Grandfather. Man I wish I had it back!

'77 VW Rabbit with a swapped-in '86 GLI 1.8 and close-ratio 5-speed. Knock sensor ignition integrated with the CIS. It was a street/canyon carver with gummy Yokohama A-008Rs on 15x7 Ronal R-10s, full Bilstein BTS-172 Sport System, 25mm and 28mm Neuspeed swaybars and stress bars, lightweight Euro bumpers, and Euro-spec lighting. The interior was stripped save for an Autopower cage, two Flofit Sport seats, and Simpson belts. 34 MPG!!!
Wrecked it (friggin' gravel tracked on the asphalt.. grrrrr.) so I stripped it and sent the carcass to the recycler. I still have most of the parts and have been thinking off and on reincarnating it using a '92 Rabbit Cabriolet... and yes, I would drive it a touch more sedate.

1972 Ford Maverick
Ford baby "diaper content" green, had a vinyl top that was stripped off before I got it leaving glue covered black.
200 Straight 6, three on the tree bare bones car.
Looked like this -
Simple, easy to work on, not bad on gas. First car I wrenched on. When I got it had a bad water pump, blown head gasket, rotted out radiator and burnt out clutch. Cheap and easy to fix. Heck I didn't even own a torque wrench, just tightened things down and drove it. Ran like a top and never had a problem, I don't know what the PO had done to it to get it in that condition.
Drove the hell out of that car for over three years in the late 80's.
Lived in rural southern Oregon back then, used to take it places cars shouldn't go. Lets just say I got it stuck in a creek one time and had three inches of water on the floor by the time we got it out, and use your imagination from there. I'm a bit nicer to my rigs nowdays.....
Sold it when I went in the service to pay some bills..... should have kept it.

I got my mom and dad's 65 Falcon 4dr with a 200 and the crashbox 3 spd (unsyncro'd 1st) in 77. Then a year later, I gave it back to Dad to drive, and got Dad's original 72 F-100 (302, 4 spd, 3.25 gear, definitely would do 105mph) back from my brother, which I drove until 87.

I still have my first one too! It's the 68 Merc in my signature. I got it as a basket case when I was 15. My dad and I got it back on the road, and I've been wrenching on it ever since, over 20 years. It still looks like it does in the picture, it's just put away for the winter (we still have 3 feet of snow here). I've often thought of selling it to get a classic car, so my wife and kids can cruise with me. It's always my wife and I, or my two boys and I. never the four of us. Anyway, after all the "I wish I still had that car" stories, I figure I better keep it. Sorry about the long post.
