What subframe?

Hello all, I have a 1954 F-100 and was looking for a little help try to figure out which subframe I have. I was told Camaro and the rear is a 1978 Camaro 10 bolt. The steering box is Camaro but from the pics I have seen it just doesn't look Camaro. I have looked for subframe codes but none are present. It actually looks like the frame, crossmember and control arms were taken from 3 different vehicle. Please help, I need parts. I guess I need help with pic posting as well.

Hey Wildebird, I have a 78 Camaro sub frame and it also had the 10 bolt rear end under my 53. There are some pics in my gallery. I don't do pics on here either. Thinking about becoming a supporter to make it easier. You can post straight from your computer hard drive as a paid supporter. There were no codes on my sub frame that I could find either. I also swapped out the rear end for an 8.8 ford rear end. Yeah I should have thought about that. I run universal rims.

We will need pics to ID what you have. I used to work at a Chevy only wrecking yard so I can probably ID it.

I was thinking an 8.8 rear also, did you get it out of an Explorer or sport track? It looks like I could only figure out how to pit pics in my album so I have a few of the subframe in there until I figure how to post on the forum.

Straight pitman arm says late 2nd gen camaro to me as well, but I dont remember that crazy bend in the center link at the idler arm mount. Been awhile since I have been under a 2nd gen camaro so could be correct. Clamshell mounts are also 1973 up.

Hey Wilde,
Welcome Back! It looks like it was drivable in one of your pics.
How did it drive? Are your plans to take the front end off?

Looking good in Florida!

I'm planning on keeping the front end pretty much the way it is except maybe a little more reinforcements at the graft. The truck drove really well, straight and true no shakes or rattles. Just kinda freshening up everything. The guy I bought it from said everything was second gen Camaro, although the 350 in it was a pax side dipstick? Do the second gen Camaros have a horn on the frame for the rear attachment of the lower control arm?

All the suspension components do look the same as the late second gen Camaro. Do the Camaros have a round front frame. Mine is almost perfectly round where it was cut. My frame seems almost flat compared to AVL100's, where his goes up around the crossmember..

If you are talking about behind the a-arms towards the cab, it looks like it is where they grafted it into the truck frame. The truck frame is flat.

Don't know about the round frame horns though, every image I found for camaros they weren't round.

I found this picture ..it is a 76 nova It has the rad support brackets that are on the outside of the frame horn like yours. And where the Bumper impact absorbers go into the frame looks like the frame horn is round after the mounts are cut off

I think your right, the round frame horns were what threw me off as well. It almost looks like multiple cars were used. There is pretty extensive welding on all of the front components. I plan on running a 400hp or so engine so I'll stiffen and box the frame.
