A "fast" 6.2

My boss just offered up a low km 2013 6.2 supercab longbox 4x4 to me for my territory. I drive this same truck in a 2012 model. I got a ride to pick it up to drive it 600km back home. The first thing I noticed was the power. It felt much faster than mine which has intake, exhaust and tuner. I couldn't stop playing with the power. This truck has 373 rearend and mine has the 430 gears. After 600km this truck got 20mpg [Canadian] and mine gets 15. This truck was completely empty, me, coffee cup and insurance papers. Mine is decked out with lift, 35s, push bars, lights and such. I cant understand why this one is so fast. It rips from bottom rpm on up. Mine used to feel like a semi leaving a stop light until I added the tuner. This new truck is still faster! I presume ford used a new tune in this newer rig?

Maybe they did change the tune, cause mine is 2013 and reacts well. Only thing is in a cold morning she doesn't want to leave 1st. Easily fixed by letting the truck warm up, or driving in manual. Besides that seems to have higher shift points and great power. Is the 2013 better than your 12 even with the tuner & intake? What tuner & intake?

It does feel faster than my 12 which has a superchips and rouch intake. Mine doesnt like to leave first cold either. Not sure about this newer truck yet

I don't have any experience with a 11 or 12 6.2 but my 13 is fast even after driving it without a load.

My 2000 V10 had way more power after Ford changed my Y pipe and installed the 01 program, so there's may be a difference in the tune from one year to the nexted.

Hmm, no way man. Everyone knows you have to have 4.30 gears to even be able to back out of your driveway, so you must be trolling!

I have the same truck in a '12, with 3.73 gears. I have never felt that my truck was "sluggish" at all, from day I drove off lot new. I've heard guys say that the trans "learns" it's shift points from the way you drive it? And that you can reset it by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting.

Maybe (?) you could try resetting yours on your '12? And maybe (?) the last driver on your bosses' '13 was "aggressive"?

I agree the last driver of this truck was aggressive. It was a lease truck that a 20 year old drove. You wouldn't think that would make that much of a difference? The other thing I notice with the 13 truck is that the traction control doesn't **** me off as much. It allows me to spin the tires a bit without shutting off the motor like my 12 does. I cant even get out of my icy driveway without shutting it off on my 12. The 13 lets me fishtail out without shutting it off. I am going to get a retune from ford and will report back any difference that makes. I am a grown man, I don't troll.

I've been driving Ford trucks for 36 years and the changes that have come about with the use of computers in our modern trucks with gas motors is nothing but amazing. Back in the day I used a Mallory ignition module so I could change the timing from inside the cab, worked great when in the mountains or when we dropped down to sea level. Now today we have trucks that adjust to about any driving load elevation and fuel quality, my 2000 V10 did a good job tuning the truck on the go but this 6.2 is amazing the way it can adapt and how fast it gets it done. The way the truck preforms from day to day is constantly changing depending on how it's being driven, drive it hard or with a big load and it will be fast lug it around town and it will lose a lot of performance. I have found that if I drive mine a little aggressive around town it will get better mileage, when I'm pulling our trailer I'm at its max towing rating and when we unhook the truck is so amped up that it's hard to drive through a campground until it settles down some.

I'm also a believer that the way a motor is run during its break in makes a difference in its performance throughout its life. On all the motors I built or purchased new I drove them easy for about 400 miles and then after that game on.

Had my truck at ford yesterday to get the new tune. I also had them take a look at my tranny which has the cold morning doesn't want to leave first gear thing going on. It also doesn't shift as smoothly as the 2013 tranny. Ford wants my truck back to do a $2000 warranty repair to the trans. A "pump" is the main culprit. They said they will do the retune at that point. It goes in on the 21st. Nothing was mentioned about the tuner I took out just before I took the truck in!

Got my truck back today. The trans pump was replaced and they did a computer reflash. The truck definitely has some more snap to it. It downshifts much quicker now than it did before. If your 2012 feels a bit sluggish its worth a trip to the dealer.

I have a 2014 250 6.2L, 4.30 with 6100km purchased at 45km and it seems gutless. Has little punch off the line and worse now with the 6inch radius arm lift and 37s. Then again this is my first 250 and I am comparing this to my 2005 150 4.6L 4.88 9.75 posi on 35s. This truck is a rocket compared to the 250 which is a tank.

I went from a 5.4 F150 to my F250 and was happy with the "upgrade". The 5.4 had way more snap off the line but ran out of steam on the top end in a hurry. With 33s it had a hard time accelerating past 125kmh. It had 3.73s.

The 2013 I have now definitely shifts better than the 2011 I had back in late 2010. I can tell the stock tune is different. The 11 would shift into 6th with converter locked below 40mph and bog down below 1,000 rpm if you weren't trying to accelerate.

The 13 will still lock the converter in 5th around 35 and tends to bog down a little, but it won't shift to 6th until around 45 under normal throttle- not trying to merge in traffic or anything like that. Stock for stock, the 13 is faster IMO.

On a side note...
I noticed when I ran the 5 Star 87 Economy tune that it shifts exactly like the 11 did stock... blah.
