Should only have one connector on 2003 transfer case shift motor. Your thread title says you have AWD. AWD does not have a shift motor... If there is no button near the radio labeled 4 Low then there's no need for a shift motor.

You must have one of the IVD equiped models. It's also called Advance Trac. According to the 2003 wiring diagram the IVD and non-IVD models use the same single 16 pin connector. You have 3 individual connectors on a pigtail(s) coming off the shift motor? Sorry, I'm no help... Good luck, hope someone can help.

Exclamation Transfercase Tags

Put the ID tag information on the forum and one of us can give you the correct motor the VIN can be use full. There should also be a Manufacture tag or case stamping this is a must. I know they were made by three different Companies all very different.

Then you dont have AWD, that is your problem. You have AUTO4x4 which is a completely different system.

If you will do this I will send you the part number you need! I think I can get it just with the Vin. number.

This is interesting to me. Do the various manufacturers use different connector plug setups on the shift motor? Seems odd that Ford would allow this, but lots of stuff seems odd... Maybe it is an early/late build thing?

The other wires in the connector are for the speed sensor and the magnetic clutch. You pull each wire out of the original connector and insert it into the new connector. Do one at a time so you don't mix any up. To remove the wires you have to pull out the red lock in the connector and use a pick to release the locking tab for each wire. Be careful not to break any of the tabs or the wire may come out of the connector anytime.

Straight from A-1 Cardone page.

NOTE FOR FORD VEHICLES:
The motor may still be tethered to
the vehicle by speed sensor wires.
These wires must be carefully
transferred to the replacement
motor connector as described
below (refer to a service manual
for detailed procedures).
• First remove red locking tab.
Carefully record wire pin
positions.
• Using a suitable tool, release
each wire pin.
• Install wire pins in the
replacement motor connector
exactly as in the original motor
connector until they snap in
place.
• Verify pin placement.
• Replace red locking tab. This
completes wire pin transfer.
5. Note position of transfer case
shaft.
